10-year Anniversary Present

So, I got a few work-related texts last night, and decided to sign into my work email, just to see everything was alright. All was okay, but there was a reminder that I had my 10-year work anniversary. Aside from a few well-wishes from colleagues I barely remember, there was a catalog of anniversary gifts I could pick.

One was a Timex just like the one in the picture. Now, I don't own any Timex anymore, and I really don't have anything against the brand. But to point to a $35 watch as a 10-year-anniversay present feels a little underwhelming? Or am I just being ungrateful, and you would take the watch?

Alternatives are a DeWalt socket set, or some BBQ utensils, or a wall plaque that only Milton could appreciate.

P.S.: I think I'm being stereotyped by that gift catalog.

I would still take it. I agree 10 years is an impressive milestone these days and merits more than what they offer, but plenty of companies give nothing at all.

Congratulations on your 10 year anniversary, an accomplishment these days. I've had a 10 year anniversary for two companies and did not get a gift whatsoever. At minimum you have choices and the watch seems like the logical one..

Timex is a great brand and you already know they make durable watches. This Timex will likely last longer than the BBQ utensils, etc. Look on the bright side, you can post it on Watch Crunch 10 years from now😉

Congrats! I got the automated email.

I would choose whichever you'd get the most use out of.

You're right. I am not generally complaining about my employer, as I got a decent bonus last year. It's just an odd selection. The only thing reasonable for my 5-year anniversary was a pair of silver earrings, which my wife wears quite often.

The only Timex I had died in a pool. But I would consider it a fluke. I may have to give this another look when I'm back at work tomorrow.

Right, the gift catalog appears to be absolutely generic. Money is always appreciated, but if they had covered the bar tab for the team, that would have been great. (Probably more expensive than the Timex, though.)

Take the watch, even if you don't wear it is the symbol of your time there. Or.... Take it, sell it and then get something that you would wear. It would be partly funded by your employer!

I was given some money for 25 years, wasn't enough to get a gold watch, but paid the majority of a Tissot Seastar 1000 Chronograph! 😂👍

The watch or any other gift wouldn't have that much of a material value. But you are making a good point: It should be something that will last, and does not become obsolete.

Take the socket set

I already have a few socket sets, so I went with the earbuds. I really didn't need a quartz field watch, after all.

This is a badass little beater! Take it and the company is lame for posting up a $35 gift. Still, this Timex is awesome just not adequate as a gift for 10 years IMO

Sorry, but too late. I have plenty of quartz beaters, already. So I couldn't go for another one.
