Good Price?

Someone is offering me this watch for about $90. I like Nivada Grenchen , though I'll admit I like the Super Antarctica and Depthmaster better.

It’s working? For $90, I’d jump on it!

·

He says it keeps time but likes to say that mechanical watches aren't all that accurate. Of course not but I don't want it losing hours per day.

·

Here is the movement. I can't tell if this is genuine Nivada or a frankenwatch

It is a Nivada Vintage watch from the 60s or 70s for the Mexican Market i think. here in my country they are very common and the truth is that it looks in good condition.

·

I can't confirm if that is the correct movement. But wow! That's a great offer, I'd go there

I'm concerned about a frankenwatch

Understood. It depends if you want it as an investment or just to wear. Even if the movement isn't 100%, I'd still say 90 bucks is a great price. But then, I'm not super choosy. I just buy what I want to wear

I have concerns that the movement doesn't say "Nivada". They weren't shy.

My concerns as well. I can't see any manufacturer designation on this. Highly suspect. Sad, because otherwise it is a beauty.

Wonder about that movement though.

Similar but not the same.

I inderstand you. Every time I see a vintage piece with 17 jewels I have a doubt about the originality of the watch.

yes that's what it looks like

there is only one solution now : close the case back, delete this post, drink a lot of alcohol to forget what you just learned about the movement. And after that just pretend it is a perfect original watch.

Ah, the beauty of vintage watch hunting…

I was burned by a Nivada last year. I sold it after disclosing that someone had made a movement swap. (There is a post somewhere on WC.)

I was taking a risk. It didn't pan out. It is much easier to take a risk when you have 50 or more sitting in watch boxes.

Yeah, I think discretion is the better part of valor here.
