Does your impulse buying extend beyond watches?

I blame Peter Kotsa. Not really. I was enthralled upon watching his review of one of the newer Henry Archer watches. I checked the website and they were almost out. The conscientious website reminded me also that it was getting down to single digit inventory and to let me know that the watch was going to be sold out. So, I pulled the trigger. I've been in love with it ever since, so I don't regret it. Not the first time this has happened. I have gotten better about this. In the beginning I had to be very careful about viewing watch videos. My watch box slots were filling up too fast but I have become more discerning overtime. I wish I could say that it was just watches. Wolverine boots sold a special edition boot two years ago and it sold out immediately. When I saw that they were doing it again and that the prices were far lower, I immediately bought them. I don't regret it but I don't know if I'm keeping them. They weren't exactly the ones I wanted. Now that I got them, I do like the look of them. Typically impulse buys are limited to watches for me, but sometimes, other things do get my attention. I've done it with rare vinyl as well. My bills are paid, there's money in savings and my family's needs are met, but of course, there's always an argument to be made that the money could be better spent. Nothing like that good old Catholic guilt. Besides watches, are there other things that make you behave like a magpie seeing something shiny?

I feel the same way, but yet that “just one more watch” feeling comes back. I try to sell a few ones in a while to manage the volume

Yeah, but I'll impulse buy truly weird stuff.

  • My wife still makes fun of me for the time I bought 96 hard-boiled eggs from Costco - I didn't end up even eating a single 1 of them!

  • When I got into "Drive to Survive" on Netflix, I ended up buying like 4 or 5 different F1 team jackets - I don't really wear any of them!

  • Winters here in San Diego are brutal... because nobody turns on the heat! So, it's always 60 degrees in our house, as it was built in 1925, and apparently humans hadn't yet figured out how to insulate homes back then! So, I ended up buying like 7 Amazon Essentials fleece sweatshirts - I think this is the only impulse purchase I do actually use!

I am in total control of my buying impulses ! NOT ! I purchase and collect Allen Edmonds boots/shoes , collect watches of all types and am a bit of a clothed horse . Life is too short , we will all spend more time below ground than above

·

Yes it extends to watch straps also.

·

I agree and have curbed alot of bad spending ways ... pens and knives were a battle to reduce and then stop lol ...

It’s been Platinum Egoiste for me for a couple of years now. Hello fellow hoarders of bottles of perfume.

For me it’s perfumes, art supplies and clothes. I’m an aging millennial so obviously I’m into Japanese denim, workwear and all of those things men my age get into

·

I was like that with knives for a while. While I'm really fond of fixed blades, I just don't use them nearly as much as a good folder.

Watches - Last year was the year of impulse buys.

Doing better this year.

Straps? Oh dear.😬

Sure there is: Women.

Yes, I am generally terrible with money

·

The fear of missing out on a limited amount of pieces available from an independent brand has caught me too.

You look at images of them over and over and think your have time to decide. Then the website says it's sold out and your get FOMO.

A quick email to the manufacturer will often find they have 2 or 3v extra just-in-case pieces, and you then pull the trigger.

My wife just said something dangerous "maybe you'll get into clocks when you're satisfied with your watch collection"

Selfedge denim. Likely fireproof. Certainly Lifeproof. Horribly expensive.

A person of culture, I see. Thank you, but I am still wracked by irrational guilt for buying them.
