Remembering you, Dad.

As usual, it was a little after 5:00PM. On this particular afternoon, I had ground three different single origin specialty coffee beans, for our usual monthly coffee tasting session. Tasting spoons and cups were all set. Your usual glass coffee cup was ready. Delicious ensaymada was also on hand for our merienda.

You happily exclaimed you were ready for our coffee time. Your caregivers were equally delighted at your excitement. We had just moved you from your bed to your wheelchair... and you were raring to go!

Then... time seemingly stood still... and you passed away.

On this 29th day of November, two years hence, the words of Tolkien resonate deeply... as if it was you speaking...

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

As I remember your life and words, you truly have been an exemplary and powerful man... investing wisely the time given to you. I learned so much from you during our coffee times and conversations.

Thank you, Dad, for passing on to me your dress watch. It will always remind me of how you carried yourself with dignity, winsomeness, and wisdom. I hope, like you, I decide wisely "what to do with the (remaining) time that is given (me)."

Beautifully written post in honour of your father.🙏Sorry to hear he passed 2 years ago. This time during the year must be very tough.

I don’t really know that “time heals”… I just think it hurts a little less as it passes. He sounds like an amazing father and I’m sure he is missed dearly. Thanks for the beautiful tribute.

You're welcome, bud. And you're right in that it hurts less "as time goes by". Now, we laugh as we fondly remember him and my Mom, and all their antics. And, we smile and nod, as we remember their wisdom. We miss them both. 🙂

Wow, nauna pala Dad mo. Sorry to hear that. Super classic yung comment ng Dad mo, pare. Ang key word doon is "nanaman". Ibig sabihin, saktong paalala lang. 😉

Kamiss mga tatay natin, noh? Yes, 🍻 for the fond memories...

The Navy Man lived a good, long life, bro.

Indeed bro, one of the Few Good Men in the dapper white Navy uniform. The Commodore surely was a beacon of honor, integrity, and wisdom-- much admired (and envied) by many of his peers-- amongst the darkness of many corrupt officers above and below him. 💪

Lovely post and sorry for your loss.

My dear old dad had been gone twenty two years this coming January.  I still think about him nearly every day.

He left me a fishing boat and a pepsi bezel SKX.  Sadly both are long gone. I hope to replace the boat this summer....maybe I'll get a pepsi bezel Seiko 5, maybe.

Thanks, bud. Glad to share with you all.

Wow, it's been a long time already since your Dad's passing. Yet his impact on you is deep and amazing. He surely must've been a wonderful man. And, what an heirloom -- a fishing boat and an SKX009!! 🥳 In honor of your Dad, I'm sure you'll be able to get your boat this summer... and a Pepsi bezel Seiko 5 too! 💪 Looking forward to your post then. 🍻

Wow very nice put together sorry for your dad. This year I lost both of my parents something that I would never have thought on there final days and moments I was the one that had to make really tough decision and I came through my bros couldn't and still can't bear the lost. I pressed fourth and moved on. I will always hold the best memories of them both. They both were not watch fans like me but I remember what I was wearing on both days that they past. And you Sir will have something that will cherish forever until time to pass on.

So sorry to hear of your loss, Chad. Must've been really tough for you and your family to lose them both in one year. It was good that in those trying moments, you had the courage and strength to lead your family left behind. I'm sure your siblings greatly appreciated you for doing so.
Indeed, keep those best memories firmly in your mind. They will bring you smiles over time, and great wisdom. And I agree, my father's dress watch will be the most valuable piece in my collection, and I will pass it on to my son in due time. God bless you and your family.

Indeed, my friend. 🤝💯 And, as someone once said, "Life teaches us to make good use of time, while time teaches us the value of life."
