My girlfriend likes hiking with her girl buddies once a month. She always wears the Seiko SYMD93 I gave her, but its gotten some scratches here and there from these trips. But, it's really not fit for such.
She's on such a hiking trip today to a waterfalls in down South, which will include passing through a cave on the way. I want to get her a small field / sports watch suited for such hikes. Her birthday is coming up this April. Any recommendations?

what price range are you thinking?
Seiko SNK809 37mm You can change the band to her favorite color.
Timex Expedition 36mm TW2V00200JR
Nothing bad with the classics F91WS-7
If you want something more high end:
Hamilton Field khaki 38mm

Good question bud. Under $100 would work well, and with a small case size, since she doesn't like big watches. Thanks for your help!

Thanks bud, for the recommendations! I think the Timex 36mm and the F91WS-7 are good options, as she doesn't like big watches. Much appreciated!
If you're not stuck looking in just the field watch category, I would throw the new G Shock GMA 2100 series into the mix. I got my first G Shock ever a few weeks ago, the gray one from the Earth Tone series. And my wife who usually wears more dainty vs sporty watches, really liked it. So I got her the GMA 2100 4A (light pink w/rose gold). She loved and turned around and ordered herself the 7A (white w/silver) a week later.
I know it may not be the first thing you were thinking of, but the smaller size, features and color choices make it a good option. Good luck.

Wow! That was a big turn around! The ladies do have their preferences. 😉 Sure, will throw that in the mix of options she can choose from. Thanks bud!

For sure. And I hope that means things are opening up over there more. I heard the restrictions there have been truly harsh.
My parents worked there in the 🇵🇭 for years, and I spent several years over there when I was a kid. Man, once you get out of Manila, the country is beautiful! You talking about waterfalls and hiking out in nature brings back memories.
If she likes choice...
BABY-G | CASIO
However, only some of those will be sub $100.

They look great 👍 and are tough💪perfect hiking companion.
Cooper Pathfinder - check my review on here (edit - deleted) if you wish. Definitely sub $100 winner.
Can recommend the khaki field mecanichal.
Also. Formex Field. looks great and there are a lot of cool colors.
Bertucci has lots of sub $100 options
Have a look at the Citizen BM8180. I own it along with the ubiquitous SNK809. The Seiko is a great little watch but the Citizen has higher WR (100m rather than 30m). It's not an auto (It's a solar quartz) but in fairness that might suit the use case better. It's a very simple little (37mm case) watch that just does what a watch is supposed to do. I changed the somewhat stiff, standard strap to a NATO.. couple shown below. It's worth a look.
i think this casio g shock dw 5600 will fit her well. from the story it looks like watch with metal case wouldnt fit with her activity so the resin case should fit her well. also dw varian has a relatively thin case
Marathon do a nice 34mm

Right... Bertucci does have lots! Thanks for the reminder, bud!

Yes, the BM8180 has been on my shortlist for me, and not for her!!! Hahaha... But it definitely punches way above its weight. 😉
Congrats on Wales taking a step forward towards World Cup qualification! I hope you go all the way after the next playoff. 💪

Yes, I've been thinking too that adding options with a resin case will work well. Will include this too in the shortlist. Much appreciated, bud!

Yes, they do! But its on a shortlist more for me! Hehehe... Thanks still for the recommendation, bud! 👌
any casio would serve the purpose, I think. even the standard casio watches (non G-shock or Baby-G) can withstand water and rough treatment.
speaking from a woman's perspective, most G-shock would be too big, unless its the G-shock Square (DW-5600 and the variants). A Baby-G might be a better fit. They're just as shockproof and waterproof as G-shocks, they're built to the same standards, but the dimensions are smaller. Plus Baby-G have lots of colors to choose from, should the ladies want to color coordinate 😎
To be honest I've taken much cheaper Casio watches on field trips and they hold on okay. F91W, F105W, W86, W218, W217, W800, the list can truly go on. I know common knowledge says a watch needs 10 Bar rating to truly be safe from water but Casio is different. I've taken casio watches with 5 Bar rating swimming and to sea and they're still good. Worst case scenario, it stops working but its cheap so it won't hurt as bad, you can just replace them
Thanks, Nathania, for your woman's insight. Much appreciated! Yep, I am aware that ladies do want to make sure the piece matches the outfit. 😉
Yes, I've now included the DW5600, the GMA2100 series, and the list of Casio pieces you gave on the list. I even included the LA-20WH series given they are slightly smaller and have various colors to boot. Will rummage through the Baby-G line to add a few more.
Get her one of these! Victorinox Night Vision. It’s got a battery powered backlight AND a built in flashlight for her cave adventure.
Wow... this is awesome! I think I'll get one for myself instead. Hahaha 🤣 Thanks for the suggestion. What are its case dimensions? Just wanna make sure it will fit nicely to her small wrist.
Get her a bertucci field watch - quartz, fixed lugs, light weight - FULL LUME CASE!!!
Yupyup, Bertucci is on the radar. And that fully lumed case is awesome! Thanks, bud!
Bertucci -- my wife loves hers.
This model is superb! It's definitely on the shortlist. Thanks, bud!

that’s a great recommendations
Yeah, illogical restrictions indeed. But not as bad as Australia and other countries where they arrest people on the spot. We're opening up now quite fast because our national elections coming up in May... hehehe... so you know why it's being done.
Great to hear too that you lived here for a number of years! I'm guessing you still remember a few Filipino words. 😉 Indeed, our countryside is beautiful. Which waterfalls do you remember you went to?
Thanks again for your recommendations! 👍
It was decades ago, but as for how much Tagalog i remember, kunti lang kaibigan. Most of my time was in Manila and the Bicol region. But I have wonderful memories of the countryside for sure. White silky sand beaches in northern Luzon, black sand beaches down south near Mt Mayon. As for the waterfalls, I dont remember exactly where that was, maybe Laguna? I'm not sure, maybe that was where I got sun stroke as a kid thinking I could run around in the sun all day even when I was told not to 😉

Hehe, mabuti naman may naalala kang konting Tagalog 😉 Yup, the beaches up north, like Zambales and La Union, are quite popular. And you're rightt, most waterfalls easy to go to are in Laguna. That's where my girlfriend went to yesterday. Your memory is still doing you well. Yep, as kids we're all usually stubborn as we love to run around and play all day!
My girlfriend is an ecologist and often works out in the field. She loves the classic DW-5600! She has 3 other G-Shocks, but this is her designated ”field watch“. Extremely lightweight and comfortable, even on her slender wrist! The true modern field watch, in my opinion. There’s a reason why military and police all over the world use it. $50 and can get run over by a truck without breaking!

Wow! The experience of your girlfriend matters indeed. Yup, I've included the DW5600 into the list. Thanks bud!
I would recommend the quartz Citizen Garrison model number BM8180-03E. It has a 37mm diameter, 18mm lugs and only 9.5mm tall from wrist to top of crystal.
Thanks, bud. Yup, that's in the list. 👍
