Why are you obsessed with watches?

Most of us are in this hobby because there is something about watches that intrigues us. In this day and age where phones tell more accurate time, and we carry our phones everywhere, more often than not, our wearing watches serve a purpose way beyond just function.

For some of us, wearing a nice watch that we have worked a whole lifetime to buy, is the ultimate marker of how far we have come, and what we have achieved.

For others, we genuinely marvel at the brilliance of mankind that we are able to create an instrument that tells the time, maybe record a whole year of the solar system's cycle, and even do it 200m under the sea, or on the moon.

Yest for others, it may be nothing more than the watch being a joy to behold, jewelry that because it has a function, justifies a spot on our persons.

You may have other reason why you're obsessed, and it would be nice to learn about your thoughts.

Thanks in advance for sharing.

A&B for me.

B & C

Watches are somewhat of a metaphor to me, a hint at what is to come, and a flicker of what has been. They show us mercilessly one of the few things we have absolutely no control over in life. Something you cannot really grasp, but of which watches and clocks are a representation. Aside from that, they are also jewelry.

But in the end, I think W.H. Auden said it best.

Literally all of the above

Thx for the poem! I was just telling my wife about some of the more insightful comments on Watch Crunch, that not everybody is talking about more colour and watch boxes.

That is beautiful, thanks.

For me, a watch is a constant companion through the important moments of my life, witnessing the highs and lows, partaking in the joys and also sadness.

When a watch gets worn and then passed down, it lives through the lives of people, recording all events, while ticking away seemingly indifferently. That's why vintage watches to me holds so much more value than it being a rare and beautiful object. It holds the traces and memories of people, things that it will never speak, but keep within nonetheless.

I like shiny things

I think B makes up most of the beauty in C for me, even if it's mostly internal. My watches aren't really fancy looking, just mechanically intricate. Couldn't care less about A.
