Do you think there's a watch out there that everyone loves?

While I think that there are watches that are very popular, you know the ones. I don't think there's a single watch that everyone absolutely loves. Think about that on this funktastic Friday! It's doesn't get much more funky than a square watch where you have absolutely no idea what time it is.

There is no one watch everybody loves, and there never will be. We all like different things for different reasons.

Surely the single watch everyone can agree they love has to be an original Casio F-91W ☺️

I dislike it greatly. It's cheaply made and cheap, but not so cheap that other options costing slightly more aren't a better use of the money.

It's like arguing that nobody can dislike a McDonalds hamburger because it's the cheapest burger you can buy that passes as food.

I second that. Happy meal toy in essence...

Rolex datejust would probably be one that most people would like the look of,obviously can't say everyone because we all know we share this planet with some strange people that don't like watches 🤔 🤣👍

·

Probably agree with @got_time_1 . There isn't a watch everyone can agree on. Strangely, Rolex Datejust is not a watch I like the look of. It's one of my least favorite Rolex watches (don't care for cyclops, fluted bezel). Also, not a fan of the casio F-91W. Even back in the day, I picked the Timex Ironman over it.

Interesting take. Casio has an incredibly rich history in digital watch making, which I would imagine majority of the respect they're given is because they do make 'cheap' (extremely affordable) time pieces.

It's completely stood the test of time - making F-91W watches so accessible for anyone around the world to own its brilliant functionality options in just 1 watch. That's an incredible iconic achievement IMO, no matter how low in price it is.

Cheaply made doesn't always necessarily have to mean it's badly made.

Casio probably put more watches on wrists than anyone.

I never said Casio was bad, just that the F-91W is an overhyped watch that isn't as good a value as pretty much any other low priced digital watch from Casio itself. Add Timex to the list of options, and the F-91W makes even less sense.

Right now the F-91W costs $28 CAD on Amazon. For a few dollars more( $42 CAD) I can get an equally "iconic" Timex Atlantis that is more capable and has a useful backlight.

The F-91W made sense in 1989 or for $10, it no longer costs that little and it's no longer 1989.

You're free to love the watch, but let's stop pretending everybody "has to" love it.

Given they started making watches in the 1970s... no.

Cheaply made doesn't necessarily mean it has to look cheaply made, but they've managed to make a $15 watch look like a $2 watch.

It will never make my collection, even if gifted it would be donated to charity.

Would agree that comes down to your own visual/taste preference, but not on the Casio.

Lol…this quickly descended into: “You have to like Casios! And if not all of them, at least the F91W!!” I am somewhat surprised Seiko has not made an appearance yet :) Well, to be honest with you all - I don’t like them all that much. Not fond of almost all Rolexes either. No, I don’t think there’s a watch out there that everyone likes…thankfully.

·

When it comes to amazing funky designs there is no common ground. Most will argue on size will say it's too busy. No point in trying to please everyone in one go. All you can do is keep buying the latest Concept S😎

·

“you have absolutely no idea what time it is.” But at least I know what date it is. 😂

·

Great question. I can certainly think of watches that everyone finds inoffensive and likeable enough because they tap into timeless elements (e.g. is there anyone who actively dislikes the BB58 or an Oyster Perpetual?)—but is there something that everyone loves in the sense of having really strong feeling of excitement about? I don't know. People differ on what category/genre of watch they prefer (e.g. dive, field, chrono), let alone specific designs within those categories.

Buuuut I get the impression a lot of people love the Lorier Falcon and the Baltic Aquascaphe, two microbrand watches that evoke classic designs (Explorer, 369 submariner variant). A lot of people like the PRX but I don't know if they love it. A lot of people LOVE the Seiko SKX, partly for its aesthetic and for its value proposition and 'trusty friend' nostalgia factor. So it seems there are a few designs that seem to tap into something that inspires aesthetic or sentimental pleasure for a lot of people. That's about the most we can say, I think.

Depends on whether “everyone” is taken to literally mean 100%. I think there are at least a handful of watches that would receive over 90% loves in a poll, but 100% from many responders, no way.

What do you think is at 90%?

·

Good question! Possibly, one or more of the watches mentioned above. Casioak? Speedmaster? PRX? (kind of a soft no for me, tbh). You thinking 90% agreement is too much to expect?

I think so, I was thinking more like 50 lol
