Another brilliant Baltany

After the demise of my venerable Tissot PR50 and replacing it with a SeaStar I didn't have a dress watch in my collection. While the occasions that I need a watch of this type are pretty rare (seems to be just births, marriages and deaths these days) I did want something that would be more appropriate than my fliegers, field, divers and chronographs. Given the low wrist time it will get I didn't want to spend too much and hence when Baltany.co.uk emailed me about a St Patrick's day offer on their vintage dress watch I took advantage. They also kindly offered to change the normally supplied brown strap to a black one.

A quick rundown of the specs: 36mm diameter, 44mm lug-to-lug, 18mm lug width, 13.6mm thjickness, screw-down crown, 200m water resistance, stainless steel case, sapphire crystal, AR coating, Seiko NH38 movement.

The finishing on this watch is fantastic, the case sides and bezel are a mirror polish and the top of the lugs are a fine brushing with no sharp edges anywhere. The crown is unsigned but has a mirror polish on the side while the knurling catches the light like a diamond. It is maybe a little on the large size but that makes it easy to use and it is worth it for the sparkle :-)

The dial is horizontally and vertically brushed aluminium with very finely printed "Baltany" and "Automatic". The numerals are raised and highly polished with thin, polished, hour and minute hands and a blued second hand.

This is my second Baltany and once again I have been very pleased with the quality and value for money.

Beautiful piece, enjoy it!

I had seen that watch on Ali, but I was not aware of their UK website. I noticed that the prices are similar to theirs on AliExpress. I had ordered a Baltany on Ali for £253 (yet to arrive) which on the UK website is £260 (though out of stock). With the Ali purchase, I may still face some import/sales duty, and that could easily add another £50 to the total.

I am engaged in a long flirtation with this watch. On and off my wish list, with other watches leapfrogging it. At some point, the linen dial craving will be irresistible, and I’ll order it up and join the club. Until then, enjoy yours!

Absolutely stunning, just recently I ordered the Small seconds one (with the silver subdial) cannot wait for it to arrive!

Congratulations on a beautiful timepiece.

Yes, I just like the certainty of a UK supplier and knowing exactly what I will be paying.
