Review - Namica Shirahama Neo Tokyo

Hello Crunchers here’s my first review of my last purchase the Namica Shirahama edition Neo Tokyo.

Let’s begin with some specs:

  • 40mm case

  • 47mm lug tu lug

  • 13mm thick

  • 20mm lug with

  • Seiko SII NH38A regulated

  • Sandblasted 316L steel with DLC coating

  • 120 clicks unidirectional sapphire bezel

  • Double dome sapphire with under AR

  • Super-LumiNova BGW9

  • Solid milled claps

  • 200m WR

The positive, the dial is simply stunning with the Ultraviolet vertical brushed metallic fumé, it’s goes from full black to bright purple depending of the light and angle. The indices are not apply and not “standard” but in this case it work very well. The hands are well proposition and the touch of color by the minute and second hand are welcome.

The case is great and near perfect for my 7 inches wrist with his 40mm. It’s a fusion between the SKX with the signed crown at 4 and the angular of the Seiko Samurai.

I have to admit, the DLC case was worrying me but so far I found it very robust and well done. It give a stealth effect to the watch. The claps is great with a two pusher release and the Namica logo. Only down side is just 3 micro adjust.

Sapphire bezel is awesome with dual color and fully lume (picture coming), it is well align and no back play at all. Engraving are fun and no common plus it give a good grip. Action is the week point of this bezel, sound is ok but the feeling isn’t there. It’s work well but not satisfying.

Image

The bracelet is good enough, comfortable and easy to size with the screws. One negative point is some link can get stuck together which I’m afraid might used the DLC coating. This is only happening when the watch is resting. No issue at all on the wrist.

After the dial, the star of the show is the lume. Who doesn’t like a good lume watch? The Namica deliver for sure. The indices are bright as well as the hands but the bezel shine for sure.

Image

So has you might already guess I absolutely love this watch, it’s unique and out there but you don’t find another design like that which I like. I do recommend it for sure. Here’s a wrist shot to give you and overall picture. I hope you enjoy my first review and feel free to comment. More to come!

Very nice review, I agree with you on the bracelet and bezel.

My bracelet links also bunch up regularly, the tolerances are too tight, so I wear it on a tropic rubber most of the time.

I actually have the non-dlc version. I thought the bracelet was quite meh. Their tropic strap that came with it was better but it’s keepers are both floating and always slides around so the strap end always slides out.

I can also see some inconsistency on the brushing of the purple fume dial with the naked eye.

I understand this is their first watch but that mid case thickness is also accentuated as its bezel and midcase is the same thickness, just one thick slab all the way down.

Sorry if I’m only listing negatives. I still have the watch but on a black Velcro strap

Indeed, the bezel action could be smoother. Regarding the bracelet, it could be better with on-the-fly adjustment. I got their tropical straps in white and black, and they make wearing it during the summer a charm.

Don’t be sorry, those are valid point. Humain are made like that, we notice negative first.

I got mine from their first batch of 300. I love this watch (and my wife, who usually doesn't like any of my watches, also does). Charlie and his wife are awesome. They're always receptive to anything that would help them improve their new watches. That's exactly what I love about buying microbrands: they're always willing to improve. It's like that old saying that says, "Buy the owner's ideals and plans, not just the brand."

Perhaps that saying only made sense in Spanish. 😂🤣
