The OG FF homage - the Fifty Five Fathoms

I’m excited to see what Swatch comes up with. The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is a fantastic watch, although not as iconic as the Speedy. I’m not convinced people are going to be queuing around the block for it come 9/9 but I’ve been wrong before… It was the FF that started my journey into modding. I was given a Seiko 5 SNZH57 by a family member only to discover that it was the most popular base model for Fifty Five Fathom mods. Bought some tools, spent some money on parts and few months later I’d built this. It’s now back with the family member who gave it to me.

Oh wow that is a nice looking mod!

I Bought this seiko 5 as a beater watch after my dad gave me his submariner. I did not want to use the sub as my daily and only planned for it to be a special occasions piece. This seiko 5 is what plunged me deep into the seiko rabbit hole and to the watch addiction 🤣

Back then, i was only willing to spend this much on a watch 😄

Yup. Thats similar to the original watch upon which the FFF mod was based. As an aside, Submariners are amazing watches built to handle anything. Even vintage references. Wear and tear is a sign of the memories you build with your watch.

Very nice and classy mod.

The Helm Miyako has touches of modern FF, also has some JLC vibes in it too.

Even though I am kinda meh on the newer FF's and prefer the much earlier military references, I do like the Helm. It's a dressy diver with some interesting patterns in the dial. Doesn't get a ton of wrist time, but I bring it out occasionally.

I know it's weird, I own the Helm, not really into modern FF's, prefer the UDT/Tornek-Rayville but to each their own. 😅😎🤘🏻🤙🏻 Watch enthusiasm is a weird place at times.

Whatever floats your boat. Helm looks great 👍🏻

Love it. I actually was planning to do the same mod. Then I brought my watch to Hawaii, took it off on the beach, and forgot it when I left. Never gotten over it. 😭

·

Yobokies sells the whole package modded too.

For me, the fun was in learning modding skills. I’ve given away all my mods bar one to family and friends.

I’m gonna take back seat on this one. Eat some pop corn and watch the people go crazy in the stores.

Yeah. I bought a Mission to Uranus earlier this year when I had the opportunity. Wore it to the British GP weekend and then never felt the urge to wear it again. It’s cool, but crappy quality and I prefer the real thing (which I’m also lucky to own). Fortunately my 18 year old daughter has taken a liking to the baby blue and white colourway. If I was in the market for a FF I’d start saving for the real thing.

I have to admit, as soon as they finally let me HANDLE one my desire to own one evaporated. Originally it was no touch. I assumed that was why..........
