What happened to the Blancpain swatch

Lately I've been seeing a lot of posts about the moonswatch here on WC. But come to think about it I haven't seen any of the Blancpain Fifty Fathom Swatch. Seems like it wasn't as big a success as the moonswatch. Any thought?

It's the sequel, and it's still in a more limited release phase.

When Swatch opens it up to all of the stores currently selling MoonSwatch you may see more of them pop up. At this point any Swatch store that sells the MoonSwatch is likely to have what you want in stock, so more are starting to pop up as people wander in to see what they fuss is all about. I suspect the same will happen with the Scuba when it's more available.

I have a Blancswatch. Its somewhere in my bed. I wind it every night. It helps with my sleep.

We've come to our senses

Lol. I like mine. It’s better built Than the Moonswatch

I have one in my rotation

It’s not worth the money and headaches to get one. Over price for a plastic copy with a non service movement

Blancpain swatch kinda proves few points:

1)Brand is not widely recognized. Even if you are not into watches - chances are you heard of Omega and Speedy at some stage and associate it with luxury. Then you fall prey to marketing trick of thinking you buy Omega at swatch money, but really you buy overpriced swatch. Blancpain was pretty much dead after quartz crisis and ask a random person on the street - it will not ring any bell

2)There was no hype (luckily) around Blancpain swatch - so likely we will see much less of them compared to moonswatch.

P.S. you can disagree with Nico on many points, but he said it correctly - “it’s over with Blancpain”. They don’t have brand reputation they used to have long ago, pretty much one trick pony with Fifty Fathoms and instead of working on brand recognition, bringing fresh models, etc. they just try a collab with Swatch which reasonably speaking didn’t live up to expectations

If you are not a watch guy, I reckon the MS is easier to like than the FF. Despite its 42mm size, the speedy design melts into most wrists and the proportions are mind-trick perfect. To the untrained eye, the FF looks a little more awkward, even before making it out of happy meal plastic.

I have heard somewhere even though i dont exactly where it was stated that this collab was a success. While the blancpain x Swatch model might be not as big as the moonswatch, it drove many people to the stores not only to see if the blancpain is in stock but also non watch people could have a look at it and then still decide to buy just another swatch model.

It also helped blancpain to sell more fithy fathoms. I dont think that they wanted a homerun just like the omega collab. They just wanted something that 1. Helped people to recognize a other brand under stwach umbrella.

2. Just keep a steady flow of people coming into there stores to sell them other cheaper models.

3. Have free advertising by people talking online.

Personally i have mixed feelings. The price for what it is, is to much. Like how is that more expensive then the tissot prx?

I don't generally agree with Nico but he was right about this one. All this collaboration did was expose the weaknesses of Blancpain.

I'll get one when they're available online at retail or below. No hurry, not paying flipper tax & would rather boil my head than go to cess pit London. 😔

·

I purchased one because I couldn't resist. But truth be said I've worn it three times in the last few months. But I just purchased a mission to mercury.

·

this one looks damn cool

Lol it has to get worst to get any better.

I think there are a few reasons:

1) The Blancpain name isn't as well-known as Omega.

2) The Omega Speedmaster is, simply, an iconic and popular watch, even among the most inexperienced of collectors. First on the moon is a bigger calling card than first at 50 fathoms (what is a fathom? 91 meters? 300 freedom feet?). Both are seriously impressive, but one just feels a little further out of reach, despite, arguably, being only one atmosphere of difference. While the Fifty Fathoms is a big name to serious collectors, many wouldn't have known or considered one before.

3) MoonSwatch regret. Now, I don't experience this one. But some people got a MoonSwatch and were upset that the crystal got scratched, or they had to get a new watch band for it right away. Maybe they don't like how lightweight it is, etc. Either way, they feel burned and don't want to get hurt again.

4) Fatigue. People are still struggling to get a MoonSwatch, and already there's another special edition they can't get without queuing? And you still can't order online unless you want to either get scammed or pay a premium. Judging by the ones I've seen on here, lots of people still getting scammed.

Although, on that last point, you'll really only have to show up and queue if you want the Sea of Storms (black) or Atlantic Ocean (blue) versions, as they sell out super quickly. I spoke to an attendant at Swatch yesterday who said the Sea of Storms had an even longer line than the release of the rest of the collection. Honestly, I loved the Indian Ocean colors right away, but when I saw that Sea of Storms version, I swore to myself about how now I have to buy two of these watches.

I've gone in on a few random days and they usually have a few of them available. Although, lately, the same is true of the MoonSwatch in the stores that carry it.
