Watch Collecting Profiles?

https://youtu.be/fJHICWjIv8Q Teddy Baldassare’s latest video is part of a series in which he recommends watches to various “types” of collectors within a set budget (9k in this video). Do you identify with any of these collector ”profiles?” What other ones should be in here?

#1: One Watch Collection: The type of person that tries their best to find the one watch that can meet all their needs and finds joy in the simplicity of reaching for the same watch everyday.

#2: Check off the Boxes: The type of collector that needs to have a watch for every scenario, even if one of those scenarios never happens.

#3: Hipster: Can’t stand having anything mainstream, so spends the majority of their time picking out boutique watches in microbrands.

#4: Sports or Nothing: Doesn’t give a damn about your dress watches and only wants casual sporty looks and capable specs for an active lifestyle.

#5: Perfect Duo: Likes simplicity but could never settle with just one watch so they opt for the balance of a dress and sports everyday piece.

#6: Three Watch Collection: Likes having three perfect watches to cover all their bases: One dress, one everyday, one sports watch.

#7: Rage Against the Machine: FU, I won’t do what you tell me! (I added this one )

It's a great video, I think geared towards beginners that need some direction.  As for me, I collect in pretty much all of the categories he mentions.  For your number seven, I want to say "Steampunk" would be fitting.

I agree with @surferjohn about collecting across the categories. I would add that I have gone through phases for each category, and am currently in either 3 or 7 with my focus on vintage and retro/reissue digital watches over the last year.

I prefer Teddy's videos (like this one) where it isn't a blatant sales pitch of a watch he's currently selling on his website...

Good points! I agree that they are good suggestions to get started.

I just started and still in the affordable level. My tendency is checking boxes of my "must-haves." Diver, chrono, Seiko, Swiss movement, digital, etc. Now I feel I "need" a display caseback, and a tank.

I’m a check the boxes guy too. The problem is we can always come up with a new box! 😂
