Travelling with 3 watches

I will be heading off on a 2-week holiday to Spain and France - specifically Barcelona, Sete and Marseille - starting Saturday evening.

To do a quick sharing on my choices:

  1. The Borealis Estoril 300 GMT - a stand-in for my Tudor 79830RB.

  2. Seiko SNE583 - one of my most recent diver purchases for 2023, but most crucially the green will match my jacket.

  3. G Shock DW-B5600G-1 - I love this for its dual time zone and Bluetooth functionality; I can swap the home and destination time reasonably quickly via the app.

In general, I am eschewing "luxury" pieces on account of what I have read about Barcelona. I know these are anecdotal accounts, but let's just say I refuse to tempt fate.

I am sure a number of you WCers would have had a dilemma similar to mine: which 3 watches would you bring for a multi-city exploration holiday?

Personally I think bringing one watch on your wrist is the best way to enjoy your travels. It helps you focus on your trip rather than your watch. Also I worry less about losing my watch… and final bonus is that it’s an excuse to get another watch during your travels 😂

Good luck and enjoy your trip 👍

You know I actually had that philosophy for prior trips, so I broadly agree with you.

Except that in a previous 2-week trip, I had an unfortunate episode where the sole watch I had brought along gave up about 5 days into the trip.

That made me rethink my approach, hence!

I took two with me. And I hopefully travel for 12 months.

So I chose a automatic diver and the same g shock as you.

My idea was the same … not to think and worry to much about my watches and have space for a new watch I case of I find one 😅

Take the Seiko diver and forget the rest. You’re on vacation, so who cares what time it is at home? Spend the time being there, in a country where nobody actually cares what time it is anyway 😎

·

This changes all the time but just now from my collection I’d go with my Venezianico cause taking a gmt when travelling just makes sense and this is my newest one.

My Formex Essence 39 Chronometer. I think this might be my nicest looking watch, and that’s it.

My Christopher Ward C60. Again a great looking watch it’s a strap monster and changing them up is easy and it’s currently my favourite diver.

Haha on so many levels I agree with you; sadly I’m head of my department and I am also bringing my work laptop with me just in case anything goes down. Sad, I know 🥲

Those 3 are such a nice selection! They’re very different and should suit a lot of different clothing styles. Not sure if you really need the Borealis, but the green Seiko and the G-Shock are excellent choices.

That Formex is very intriguing! I must admit I have been slow to get around to appreciating them, but this brand and some of their pieces have come on my radar in recent days, will be keeping an eye out for them 💪

I should probably mention that I chose the Borealis because I wanted to bring along a "flyer" GMT for this trip, to see how well this type of movement aligns with my habits when travelling across time zones. I had previously only had "caller" GMT watches, which took longer to set the local and home time.

Also, this trip is a bit of a "field test" for the Borealis; on previous holidays, I have had watches get magnetised when travelling to Europe, and I am still trying to figure out what that is all about.

So it is Borealis and Seiko and the Casio as a Backup or more casual watch! Go for it. You even made me look up this nice G-Shock😆

Ah yes the g shock, I was directly influenced by TGV to make this purchase; do check out his video on it!

Its so hard, to choose your travel watches, and it's even harder to choose just one. You're 3 are looking good to me.

As anecdotal as your fears are, they are also very real. We shouldn't single out Barcelona, but on a recent trip there, I fortunately managed to thwart a set of sticky fingers entering Mrs Yonder's handbag.

Its a beautiful city, The Segrada Familia is a must, be careful and you'll enjoy yourselves

Wow, yeah I know my fears are merited but I’m not about to let fear overrun the joy of getting to be there. It will not be my first time in Barcelona, but yes will be extra mindful of sticky fingers! Cheers!🍻

A radio controlled G Shock can replace a beater, a sports watch, and a GMT, so that's a clear must. Since they can be had around $100 it's not so valuable as to attract attention in most places.

If I wasn't going to need to wear anything but casual dress, that's probably the only watch I would bring. If I needed to dress up, I'd bring an inexpensive, versatile, dressier watch as well.
