Bremont Broadsword Bronze

Recent addition to the collection...

wandered into my local Bremont boutique last month as I've always been intrigued by the brand but never had any hand on exeperience with their pieces. Was so impressed with the quality that I decided to purchase this incredible piece.

Being from London, I loved that all of their straps, cases, dials and movement calibres are all made in-house at their factory just outside the city. They also happen to be certified chronometers.

I also love the military tie in with their Broadsword range of watches, being that they are officially approved by Her Majesty's Armed Forces and therefore are allowed to be used by those in the service. (HMAF can also be seen below the Bremont logo on the dial at 12 o'clock)

It doesn't come off incredibly well in this particular photo, but I also believe Bremont's quality and finishing punches far above it's weight, especially for the price point.

I highly recommend everyone gives Bremont a go if given the chance. They're a bit of a hidden gem right now.

Would highly recommend a bronze watch! They change colour rapidly and are also very easy to keep shiny if that's more your thing. They're dynamic little things. Also has the benefit of being far cheaper than gold.

Yeah the dive watch one is really cool. The mechanism for the internal dive bezel is extremely well made too. The clicks feel extremely robust when you turn the crown which rotates it.

It’s very nice, but for the price you could dine out on some genuine vintage militaria (CWC G10 Fatboy, SBS diver, Smithe W10, Pulsar RAF Chronograph). That’s also not really fair either, because if was going to buy something of this style at this level, I would be torn between this or a relaunched Vertex.

Bronze watches are really gaining ground. Do any of you know if the typical representation tarnishes or can react to the skin? Is the metal plated etc.?

·

That looks really smart mate

It seems to depend entirely on the alloy used. Some patina faster than other and vice versa. My Bremont patina's very slowly due to the alloy used. As far as I know, bronze does react with the oils in your skin. the metal is not plated, at least on mine. It is solid bronze.

You can certainly get some legitimate military pieces for less money, all of which I really love.

While the Bremont is technically an official military piece it does feel more like a story than something which is commonly used, but to be honest I bought it more for the overall quality and finishing of the piece than it's military relevance. I'm not really bothered by stories or heritage associated with pieces.

The new and old Vertex's are really stunning pieces. Christopher Ward also makes some nice military watches to my knowledge but I can't speak for the authenticity behind that.

Looks great. What's the dimensions?

I have a Bremont MB and the Vertex M100 and just love them both. The Bremont has such a unique case design with the knurled aluminum midcase, and you can't beat the "bar story" impact of explaining how the watch can be ejected from a jet! :-D  The Vertex is so simple yet incredibly dazzling to look at with the 3D molded lume numerals. It's just mesmerizing, especially after it gets a few minutes of sunshine to bring the lume to life. Plus, can be dressed up or down with a strap change. I think British brands are making some major waves, from Bremont and Vertex to Fears, CW, Farer, and others.

I don't trust and will not support Bremont since they outright lied (and got caught doing it) about their first purportedly "in-house" movement - the BWC/01 (really a re-badged La Joux-Perret).  See: https://monochrome-watches.com/bremont-wright-flyer-story-bad-communication-in-house-movement/

If it's a true solid bronze watch it will not be plated. Most of the manufacturers alloy the bronze with another metal to make it a bit harder than standard bronze and some use a mix that allows it to not patinate quite as quickly. Either way I really do like the bronze watches. I have my eye on the Bremont. It's a very fine-looking timepiece....

Hard to say how a bronze watch will patina, it depends on so many factors. If you let it patina naturally, it depends on where you live as it varies with environmental conditions, particularly humidity. I patinaed my CW (no longer with me) first by swimming in a chlorinated pool, which gave an ugly, flat, dull metallic look, and then by just wearing it (in Denver's dry air). That gave it a much more pleasant, richer tone. You can also force any patina you like. A good starting point is at:
