Omega Aqua Terra or JLC Polaris Automatic?

As this is my first post, I'm hoping the collective experience here can help me decide which watch to purchase. Omega Aqua Terra 41mm in black dial Ref# 220.10.41.21.01.001 or the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Automatic 41mm black dial Ref# Q900817.

I hate to do this, but - it's a tie, as least as far as I'm concerned. Love the JLC, but the AT is just so handsome...

The price for the JLC is $9,500AUD and the Aqua Terra is $7380AUD.

·

Indeed. Well...if money is an issue, go with the AT, obviously. I'm a big admirer for both watches, and, well, you can't go wrong, in my eyes.

·

I would say go with the JLC.  And this is coming from a professed Omega fanboy!  My reasoning is that Omega's are relatively common - the company makes on the order of 500k watches a year.  Meanwhile, JLC makes something like 10% that.  You'll have something much rarer.

Beyond that, my experience is that nobody at all notices or cares what watch you have on your wrist.  But, on that very, very, very rare occasion that you come across another watch nerd, it's nice to geek out.  And when it comes time to geek out, what's so special or different about the Omega?  Amongst us watch nerds, Omega's are pretty commonplace, and we all know everything there is to know about them, right?  (Yeah, yeah...  moon...  whatever...)  Wouldn't it be more fun to geek out about JLC?  Talk about their amazing engineering?  Their history of being "the watchmaker's watchmaker" supplying movements to the Holy Trinity?  The Calibre 101, at 14mm x 5mm, the smallest movement ever made?  Etc., etc.?

·

^^^ Wise words there.

·

Love both but if the funds are available I’ll go with JLC.

·

The AD just reduced the price of the JLC to $9k flat from $12,200.

Reading all the comments and looking on Chrono24.com and Chronext.com it seems that there are a lot more Aqua Terra than the Polaris. Also, the JLC Polaris keeps its price better than the AT.

with that, it seems the decision is clearer now.

·

I think the aqua terra is better looking but the JLC is a superior watch. JLC as a brand is an altogether different level from omega. End of the day, a watch is brand driven, no one takes it apart to compare wheel for wheel. So if I had to choose one, it wud be JLC all the way

Depends

What to wear everyday = Omega AT

what to wear special occasions = JLC

limited funds = AT

funds no issue = JLC

no need to impress = AT

Like to impress = JLC

You described on clear words what really is the watchlovers life: geek out with other watch geek is our satisfaction. JLC wins, Omega is the standard and Rolex only an expensive status symbol.

·

JLC all day in my view. If within budget a bit more special

·

JLC.  I prefer the look, and the fact that you won't get on the commuter train with 17 other people wearing it.

·

Late to the party, but AT for me.

·

JLC no contest. F$ck Omega but Marry JLC.
