Would you swap a Rolex AirKing with a Zenith El Primero Chronomast Sport?

Hi All, I've got an opportunity to trade in a brand new Rolex AirKing 2022 model Ref:126900 with a brand new Zenith El Primero Chronomast Sport Ref:03.3100.3600/21.M3100 and I'm not sure if I should do it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated it

That’s a tough one. I’d go for the Zenith, but selling a Rolex would be tough for me. They’re just so hard to get these days.

·

I like the airking I feel it’s underrated in the Rolex line up. I don’t get how the exp1 gets so much more attention than it but I guess that’s just my preference.
the zenith is really nice too so either way you’ll have a great watch.

·

Keep the Rolex save up for the Zenith

·

I'd keep the Air King, but then again, I'm biased...

I like the Zenith, but in 10 years, do no I want to hear how much the bill to be serviced will be??

·

If financial aspect/retaining resale value concerns you, keep the Rolex. But if you are asking which I'd prefer to wear and would enjoy more, the Zenith by a country mile.

·

The air king has never done anything for me, but like all that's personal preference.     Agree with @Jklotz ... forgetting resale, etc.    ... Zenith all the way (but I'm a touch biased as I own a Chronometer OG).    However, know the chronomaster new will take a hit in value the day you put it on.   Haven't looked much lately but they were selling preowned in the 8000's a few months ago.

But most importantly, when you look at your wrist ... which one makes you smile the most?

·

You didn't give us a lot to go on. The Zenith is a bit larger watch - so wrist size will matter. If you have a 1 watch collection the airking may be more versatile. Ultimately, if you are not attached to the airking then make the trade -- that model being left in a box is not going to greatly appreciate. Get what you want.

·

Me personally? Yes. The AirKing is boring compared to the CMS in my opinion.

·

I love the Zenith, not so struck by the Air King but as Rolex used prices soften I think I would sell now and go for the el preimero. Just me , but you asked.

·

I've come to appreciate the Air-King as the only Rolex other than the Explorer 1 that I'd be interested in getting one day. It's pretty much the only "quirky" (non-blingy) Rolex and I think the changes to the 2022 version are spot on. As the user above says though, the only real advice should be get what YOU want.

·

i tried the zenith on at an AD a few months back. Was captivated by it!!! If you get that chance to own it for a while and experience that 1/10th of a second movement I’d do it in a heartbeat. If I hadn’t got my IWC it would have been this ❤️

Not a big Rolex fan here, but I am holding on to mine and would advise you to do the same.

·

I would make this trade in a heartbeat.  The AK is an entry level three hander.  The Zenith is an exceptional chronograph.  This isn’t even a contest in my mind.

·

Air King

·

Any time of the day. Zenith is a lot better watch.

·

No Brainer. Rolex sucks so get rid of it.  Zenith rocks so rock the El Primero.

·

The Air King is a nice watch, but not an icon like that Zenith. IMO, Go with the Zenith in this case.

·

Personally I would Keep the air king, and save for the zenith.

but just fallow your heart, keep the one that makes you smile and look at it for 20 min in awe.

@SeanS79 you bring up a good point, I'm yet to see the Zenith and try it on the wrist and that may change things. The other thing from a value perspective is that the Zenith is a more expensive piece (RRP) and seeing the dealer selling it for $3k less than the RRP is concering especially with the protective stickers still on the piece.

looking on Chrono24, the AirKing pieces are priced well above the RRP price, this could be because it is a Rolex.

I also reached out to a few YouTubers to whom I subscribe to their channel and they all said to "keep the Rolex" in one form or another.

Everyone has brought up great points and I have a lot of thinking to do.

As ever, it always comes back to what your priorities are… if it’s not a forever piece and you want to make a few quid in a couple of years by selling the airking then its a no-brained to keep what you’ve got. If youre collecting experiences of ownership and the money is kind of a secondary thing then that takes you in a different direction. Either way fella, keep everyone posted 👍🏻👍🏻

·

Oh, sorry… meant To say also… depends on where youre at with your ownership of the Airking. If you feel you’re past the honeymoon phase and you wouldn’t really miss it then I think that’s a big factor. Or if you’re still really attached to wearing it and can feel the pangs of not being able to reach for it in the morning then that’s a different box of frogs 🐸

I think it is a tough call... I love both, both are awesome watches. If you decide to go through, I have an unworn Zenith El Primero Chronomaster Sport, white/bracelet. Full box and papers, brad new, unworn, unsized. Let me know if you are interested in a trade...

Cheers and good luck.

how does both watch watches fit in with the rest of your collection?

·

You have two decision criteria to determine how you proceed:

  1.  Do you want the better watch from a technical complication and horological significance? Then go with the Zenith as it is a far superior watch to the Rolex. The El Primero movement with 1/10 of a second chronograph is amazing and fun to watch.
  2.  Do you want better longer term residual value and more potential buyers if you get bored with the watch? Then keep the Rolex Airking as it will hold its value better than the Zenith and will be easy to unload any time.

My own choice would be:

I love this watch!

I love the white dial El Primero, however, the watch that is being offered is a black dial. I'm also asking for 2k on top to sweeten the deal.

The AirKing in my 1st Rolex. I have a BB58 blue dial and BB58 GMT S&G "root beer" and a Raymond Weil Freelancer.

my blue BB58 is my daily and the GMT doesn't get as much on the wrist. The freelance was gifted to me and it was my only watch for a few years.

I don't know if they will fit or not.

The dealer messaged me this morning and offered me a 2022 Submariner with date plus 12.5k which I quickly rejected.

I also like the black dial - I almost went for that version, but I can't resist the Panda 😉

In a heartbeat.

If it were up to me, I think I would go with the Zenith.  I would think that having a nice chronograph would help round out the collection.

Zenith simply for the movement ;)
