New Seiko power reserve concern

Hi guys! Wifey just got me the SRPK39 "Bruce Lee"... This is not something I'd buy for myself but after wearing it for a month, I love it.

Recently I decided to test it's power reserve, and its only holding for about 27 hours... The 4R36 should last 41 hours of im not mistaken.

I did have the same issue with my STO Samurai a few months back. My local jeweler sent it in to Seiko, and it was fine after that.

It's pretty much the same.movement and wondering if this is a known issue with it.

It's keeping decent time, a little fast, but other than that, I don't really want to deal with the hassle of sending it in.

Thoughts?

Sure have. 😁

I’ve not really heard of power reserve issues in Seiko movements discussed in watch fora.

Of course, that doesn’t mean they happen. It’s weird that it’s happened twice to you.

Does it stop running around midnight?

I would say you’re just unlucky with the qc. I’m a huge Bruce Lee fan and I don’t even consider picking this „limited“ watch up. But sorry to hear your issue with it. Hope you can still enjoy it

Last I checked, I put it down at 11:20am, and it stopped 28 hours later at 3:30pm.

Like I said. I never would have gotten it for myself. Even when my wife gave it to me, I was like.... Cool 😬 But now I love it... Can't explain why. Lol

I have an Islander flieger style with the 4r36 and it is running at around plus 2 a day. I’m guessing bad luck?

Sounds about right... Not worried about the accuracy, just the power reserve.

Here is hoping its not fake.

I Was thinking the day date change gearing may stop it when engaging around midnight.

Oh. Gotcha... Regularly works right through midnight, even when it's put away.

Never heard of this issue tbh, but when tens of millions of the cheapest movement in the range are mass produced with next to no QC there are going to be some lemons. These are throwaway movements that get replaced rather than serviced. You can buy them for 30 bucks. They do pretty well for what they are nine times out of ten.

There is a plague of fake Seikos, its not that funny.

Just buy a new 4R36 of eBay with a black daydate wheel and have your local watchmaker swap the movements.

Did you try manually winding it all the way up? Try that a few times and measure the power reserve. If it fails that test, send it in. Then wind it up fully manually again and wear it then check the power reserve. It may just need some running in/break in on the spring.

On the other hand the clutch may be slipping and preventing the spring from fully winding. You will discover that with your testing for sure.

It's a month old. Better to send to Seiko for warranty.

Its possible. I'll try again.
