Is Citizen Asking Too Much?

I love the Citizen brand. The innovation and aesthetics of their watches are what drew me in years ago. It's the one brand I own the most of in my collection.

One can only imagine what goes into building a watch that is less than 3mm thick with Eco-Drive technology. That being said is 4.7k a bridge to far for Citizen?

Is it me or is it the 80s all over again?

Why is $4.7k too much?

Cartier sells a completely pedestrian quartz for $3k, and no one bat an eye. Grand Seiko sells thicker quartz for around the same new, and no one bat an eye.

Citizen lacks a name brand line like Grand Seiko to Seiko. However, they have released some delicious offerings at higher prices lately (The Citizen 🤣; on a serious note: they need better brand management). If this watch is well finished, why not $4.7k for a super thin, run forever watch?

Shop around you'll see them much lower

Cool watch!

Honestly with the innovation compared to some other brands, the price sort of makes sense. But we'd be fooling ourselves if we pretended that brand name doesn't play a part in watch pricing (especially above about a grand), and with that taken into account, it probably seems a bit steep, because most people associate Citizen with under £500, often under £300 watches in shopping centres and mid-range jewellers. Perhaps time for Citizen to release a premium range? A "Grand Citizen" so to speak?

I agree, the perception of high end and value outweigh innovation in some regards. If you have 5k and don't have an entry level luxory brand in your collection will you spend it on a Citizen or Omega, Tudor, GS, etc, etc.
