London calling

Hey people,

I'm visiting London for a few days next week and was wondering if anyone had a nice watch related recommendation. Any cool AD, or museum, vintage seller, what have you.

A good TIME related museum is the Observatory at Greenwich. https://www.rmg.co.uk/royal-observatory

·

Plenty of ADs, especially if you have deep pockets

·

Burlington Arcade if you basically want to see every watch ever. (Hyperbole but not by much)

As a bonus, it’s next to New Bond Street, which in addition to the really high end ADs, has a very friendly Grand Seiko boutique, which is in turn a short walk from Oxford Circus and Regent Street which has Omega at one end and… you know, I forget who the posh guys are at Circus end.

There’s even a little watch repair place in Piccadilly Circus tube station.

The Clockmakers' Museum is amazing. Now housed as a gallery in the Science Museum.

It has: "600 watches, 90 clocks, 30 marine chronometers and a number of fine sundials and examples of hand engraving, mapping the history of innovation in watch and clock making in London from 1600 to the present day.

Assembled by the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers and once located in the Guildhall, this remarkable array of timepieces traces the story of the capital’s clockmakers—from their first marine chronometers and mechanical clocks through the evolution of the wristwatch."

Mr. Jones watches storefront.

Some of the most unique and fun watches. Even just wandering in looks like fun from what I've seen online.

·

Greenwich . Wristshot near the clock on the prime meridian, see amazing Marine chronometers in the museum at the bottom of the hill, but watch out for the oddly coloured birds 👍🏻

·

It’s a little far out there and you have to book in advance, but you can tour Bremont’s factory. It’s £25 per person (net proceeds donated to charity). Even if you don’t care for their watches, I’m sure it’d be fun; the horological equivalent of a brewery/winery/distillery tour.

As for AD’s - go where the AET guys went on their dive watch challenge 😉 link

Oooh, good idea. I'd love to see one in the metal.

This sounds like an expensive afternoon. 🤪

Sounds interesting. I'll see if I can get there somewhat easily.

Also, you can book an appointment at the Baltic London showroom, near Oxford Circus: https://baltic-watches.com/en/showrooms

·

Harrods, Knightsbridge. Don't forget your platinum amex 💰

They also have exclusives and their inventory is completely different from online store or so I have heard.

If you can try one on with the mesh bracelet - they are the most comfortable watch ever. They also look 1000x better in person. Photos don't do them justice.

You're preaching the choir at this point. 😂

I am very very biased.

I've been eyeing them for a while. 😁

The key is — be a bit poor as a church mouse.

I did it and never spent a penny, not even in H. Samuel round the corner xD

·

Watches of Switzerland on Regent Street is a must to see new med to high end. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Plus the lift is very cool 😁.

·

Lots of AD at Battersea Power Station which opened fairly recently and is well worth a look. Rolex , Tudor, Omega all the usual suspects and all brand new boutiques.

Was about to suggest this very video 👍

I second this suggestion. Just went a few weeks ago and they give you some extra goodies for going in store and the inventory is different than online. They also experiment with different colors and you can pick up a unique prototype for a discount! Check out my history and my post for pics.

You can also just walk in randomly, which I did. They have all the warches there including the new field watch.

·

You can also take an hour train to visit Christopher Ward and Farer is somewhat in that direction too. I didn't have time to visit them but it's on my list.

Yes, legend has it Jimi Hendrix released a pair of green parrots and they bred , now there's a flock living at the meridian. Most odd if you're not expecting to see tropical birds! 🦜

I went when I was there earlier this year, it’s a fun little store and they have really cool watches.

·

I swung by Harrod’s when I was there earlier this year and picked up their exclusive blackbay.

And definitely stop by Bond Street and see all of the boutiques.

I can testify that parakeets have colonised most of London's parks. Take a bag of monkey nuts to St James's Park, and you'll make some feathered friends in no time
