Acrylic Crystal Watches

I recently acquired a Lorier Falcon SIII. I see what the fuss is about. I’m especially enamored by the acrylic crystal. I don’t remember having these feelings about the crystals on my Swatch watches though. A different kind of plastic? The clarity seems better on the Lorier. It kind of reminds me of looking through water.

Any recommendations for other watches that use acrylic crystals? I have a timex marlin coming soon.

Thank you!

Some Baltic watches like the MR01 use Acrylic. Personally I really love acrylic. The domed acrylic distortion is so beautiful to look at and after chunking a sapphire I think I’d like the level of shatter resistance of acrylic better. My Lunar Pilot was a big flat sapphire slab which I changed to domed acrylic.

I wasn’t aware you could convert watches that use sapphire to acrylic. Any special requirements?

Neither was I but I asked our local watch technician and he said he can do it easily. And here it is. I already have the replacement sapphire crystal but I won’t be installing it yet as I love how the domed acrylic really gave the bulova that warm old world look.

I have to admit, I've never been a fan of the Lunar Pilot, but I'm totally on board if it looked like that!

This is the second time you've shown this beaut, and my wallet hates it lol.

Now I need to order an acrylic for mine...👀

What size you go with?

Wolbrook has several variants in their Douglas Professional lineup.

Here's the Skindiver II Professional

Image

HVD Spectre Diver, manual wind, gasket only (no screw down crown). HVD is the side project of RZE's owner I believe.

Timex Q GMT (or any Timex Q for that matter)

I agree with you about acrylic btws. It has become my most favorite crystal type by a long shot.

Doesn't mean I don't enjoy other watches with sapphire, but love me some acrylic.

I know wearing a mechanical watch (or any watch that isn't a smart watch for that matter) is already like playing vinyl and shooting with film, but having an acrylic crystal really does take it to 11.

My goal is this:

If you haven't gotten one yet, I would think about getting a Seagull 1963 w/acrylic crystal. Amazing watch for not alot of money.
