Cartier brand

It took me a few decades into collecting to come around to Cartier - it always felt like more of a jewelry brand and less focused on creating a singular product (watches.) Oddly this aspect of the brand is why I find myself drawn to it now - santos watch, santos lighter, most likely a santos pen next. Makes me wonder if items like this offered at retail would cheapen the brand perception of say a Rolex, GS, VC etc. The Cartier boutique experience (Beverly Hills) really has me reconsidering what it means to be brand - do you think these offerings cheapen their brand perception or add to it?

I'm only interested in the watches. I don't think the other items cheapen the brand because Cartier already is so much more than just watches. That said, to me, it doesn't matter what it does to the brand perception because I'm convinced they make great watches and I really enjoy my Santos.

I love getting some swag from the AD. Cartier is a hot brand right now.

Cartier is a true watch manufacturer. Santos 1st mens wristwatch 1904

I think Cartier might get knocked down in the watch enthusiast community because of the other things the brand offers and because of that it might get labled a fashion brand. However, their watches have legit chops (as do Hermes and Piaget) and the brand just exudes class. So if you wear a Cartier, you will get a ton of appreciation from the general populace, but maybe less so from the watch enthusiast populace.

But does it really matter? We wear these things for us, not for other people, right? RIGHT?

I'd love a gold Tank Americaine. That will be my dress watch of choice one day. But that day is a long way away as I don't have many occasions to wear it. Maybe as my kids get older and start to gravitate towards marriage or something like that.

Cartier helped to popularise the concept of the wristwatch for men.

The OG pilots watch

I’m having problem with Cartier watches, some are too small, the santos and Dumont are too big. The perfect ones are not attainable, Privee and Cintree…. 😅

·

Their watches looks good enough for me, I don't think I can even afford to collect their lighter lol

Might as well get the santos fragrance as well to complete the collection. To me Cartier transcends watches but other watch brands like Omega are limited to watches. Cartier is a luxury fashion brand first and foremost that ALSO makes great watches. Other watch brands probably can’t do what Cartier does.
