The Seiko Ginza No One Loves

When Seiko did the two Ginza models I was over the moon with how good the dials looked. Size wise, I try not to wear anything below 40mm - especially if it has any kind of bezel - as it starts to look a bit child like on me. So of the two, I was pushed towards the Presage version over the Alpinist, and I just love wearing it whenever it comes out of my watch box (admittedly only every few months once I've rotated everything weekly).

But I've noticed this one seems to be the more unloved of the models. I get it - people love the Alpinist. But for someone like me, it just wasn't an option.

Great looking dial and I think this could have possibly been the more popular of the two if it didn’t have the open-heart. I’ve already said my piece on open-hearts in general, but in this particular piece the unique geometrical dial pattern doesn’t work with the circular elements. Still a nice watch, but the simpler dial face would have been my preference. 🤙

I think it looks awesome.  I tried to get one, but they were all sold out like within 10 seconds of announcement!

I'm guessing that because the Alpinist version was 'clean' that they wanted to do something a little different with the other Ginza, otherwise people might have said they were too similar?

Yeah, and that probably depended on region. In Australia, the Alpinist version went super fast but the Presage hung around for a little while. And still might be around in some places like Seiko boutiques at full RRP (which is AUD$900), rather than the $700 I paid at an authorised retailer, where they seem to be gone now.

I’m not a fan, but you need to buy what you love. Don’t buy watches to impress others.

I never have?

This is a weird coincidence because I just posted about my Presage Ginza about the same thing and just found this post.

I know people talk about how the skeleton heart takes from the watch face and looking at the alpinist, I get what they mean. That being said, I love watch and prefer it to any other Seiko I’ve seen on the market, if you love your watch piece then that’s all that matters

Love this watch!!! Beautiful dial just a awsome look enjoy it!!

100% get it!  My 38mm alpinist wears smaller than I’d like, and I’ve got wrists like a 9 year old girl.  It’s a happy compromise though as I love the dial.

I needed to pull strings and ask favours to get the ‘desired’ model, so it’s nice you can enjoy the striking gray blue pave stones in a better size, and with minimal effort.

That's just it, man. If I could have made the Alpinist work on my wrist, I'd have loved to get it. As you note, it wears pretty small!
