Any love?

This doesn't seem to have gotten any attention, or to have been received positively by the community...

I kind of like it! For a few reasons:

  • First the 12 raised markings on the bezel can actually take the place of indices, and I think they make for a highly legible watch. I find I can take a glance and gauge the time quickly with this kind of dial. There are few distractions because the dial is so sparse.
  • it's minimalist and futuristic looking. It's different and a nice addition to a collection I think.
  • it's got the 500m water resistance of Squale's 50 atmos line
  • Sellita movement

All in all, to me this is a digital looking watch that has all the features of a robust automatic to please the enthusiast.

What do you guys think?

I think there's a bunch of Squale watches I like better... especially this one-

Nope. Looks like fashion watch junk to me.

Yeah, dude, it looks awesome!  I think traditionally designed watches can be incredibly boring.  Watches & Wonders produced one, big, long yawn out of me.  I mean, I couldn't be bothered to consume any media on all the new releases, because all the new releases were incredibly conservative, incremental changes.

"We just released this watch in...   two-tone!"

"Gasp!!!"  (Clutching my pearls in absolute ecstasy and titillation!)

(I take that back.  As soon as Watchfinder's "podcast" videos came out, I immediately gobbled those up.  But, only because those two dudes made fun of every single boring watch with such aplomb.  They're, like, literally my heroes.  When I grow up one day, I want to be like them.)

This Squale is different.  If a fellow watch nerd notices it, it'll be a great conversation piece.  If a non-watch nerd notices it, it'll give you a chance to show off your geek credentials and talk all about Squale.

What's not to like?

It looks like an old school dive helmet, it's really cool!

·

It’s nice and different. I don’t tend to think about Squale much, mainly because I’m kind of over dive watches at the moment.

Honestly, what I like is that YOU like, can say why, and it’s filling a gap in your collection. That makes it awesome.

·

It's different but in a good way. Moreover, though lacking the appearance of a field watch (by virtue of its function) it looks like it can take a good stomping.

·

Personally the round shape and the high polished finish for a dive watch makes it look more like a fashion watch AKA a Movado than a tool watch. I would of  sone a  matte finish maybe a bronze to make it look vintage. Would of gotten rid of the circle in the middle of the whole dial since it doesn't look like it serves a purpose (I can be wrong) and put markers.  At the same time many watches look better in person vs Pics.

·

Love the fact that this watch looks different and not just a slight derivative of every other dive watch (ie - example in the first reply). Nice find!

·

It looks interesting enough. The bezel is kinda reminiscent of the Panerai Submersible bezel.

What’s the size of it?

·

I really think it's cool... Wish they are readily available here down under... It's gnomon edition lab edizone 1? I guess you can only get it through online order.

·

Has a very Unimatic vibe about it.

It's 41mm diameter, 48mm lug to lug

·

I either really like it, or really don't, which says to me it's a good design.

·

It isnt really for me and for some reason no Squale is. I dont really have a great reason, I know it is a great build...If I think about it, it is the logo. It looks like a dead fish lol.  but I wouldnt buy a Panerai either and I am sure some of those are good. Just my weird opinion. If you like it, grab it man!

But when you posted that, these Italian watches came to mind that I always have liked...Unimatic, I love these!

I second that unimatic vibe.  It looks very much like a porthole on a boat, to the point that I think that it was the intent.  Not for me but it’s an  Interesting piece
