Cartier tank or santos Dumont?
Hello crunchers. So I’m thinking of buying my next watch for a special occasion(graduation) and I’m torn between the Cartier tank must large(not the gold in the photo!) and the Cartier santos Dumont. About 1000 euros price difference in the used market(2800 vs 3500). Recently tried them on in a Cartier boutique so here are the photos. Any other recommendations in this price range are acceptable! Oh man so much to choose from in this price range. Clearly you’ve defined the aesthetic you want so I won’t dwell on anything else. Between these two there is no wrong just right. But it’s which is more right for you and how it looks/feels in your wrist. Personally I think the santos looks better on your wrist in the photos but then again I don’t like yellow gold! Sorry not very helpful but either are lovely timepieces. Congrats on graduation too
If budget or size allow, go mechanical Santos XL, I’m biased though. I still want a Tank Solarbeat Lg, depending if you aren’t in US I think they are available and that is what I’d get in your situation.
It would be the Dumont for me.
Santos is better proportioned on your wrist in my eyes.

I would go with the Santos unless you were able to spring for the gold Tank. If it's steel vs steel I'd go with the Santos.

I really respect Cartier, love the idea, design history of the Tank but have never owned any model over the years. However I still own 3 different models of the Santos, bought my first just after marriage, fittingly my wife wears the Carree now when she is not wearing one of her own Cartiers. I gave our daughters Tank XL watches a few Christmases ago but had to buy the watches with bracelets since the watch on strap did not fit our younger daughter, she didn’t want quartz since quartz can fail and replacing the whole movement is usually the solution. No dog on quartz, have probably 10 of them including GS 9F. I was just thinking size wise on the XL, I thought it and the Santos de Cartier Lg would be too big, but when I tried all of them on, I was more surprised that the Medium and LG of the respective models felt smaller than the LG and XL did big
Thinking the Tank is probably the way to for you though regarding size and what you’d like to accomplish with this piece. Let us know which way you end up!

Dumont. Unless you like the vintage vibes. Of the tank. I think the Santos DuMont is more versatile and has almost a sporty look which appeals to me
