Following my other post about vintage Omega ads, here are two of the first Rolex ads published in National Geographic in the 1950s.
A Submariner and an Explorer.
So cool!
This account is verified. WatchCrunch has confirmed that this account is the authentic presence for this person or brand.
And it’s the issue right after Hillary became the first person to summit Everest. Wow!
Amazing!
The Explorer looks real, but the first picture Rolex is more a drawing than a picture, right?! Never have seen a Sub or other Rolex in that configuration. Looks weird :)

The first pic isn't a sub. It's a deep sea special. These were insanely overengineered. They didn't have the bezel in this pic. I saw one in the metal at Phillips. Quite rare

I thought the same first, have also seen one in person in Zürich, but the one from the ad has a rotating bezel with a minute track…
Y the advert fudged that detail. They may have planned to do a rotating bezel on these but cancelled it

You're right @Katimepieces, the ad is for a Submariner (for "skin divers") but the illustration is of the first Deep Sea prototype 🎯
Those are so cool. I love the price on the Explorer - $165.
What treasures. Must be so tempting to pull the ads and have them framed. I wouldn’t be able to resist.
Thanks for posting this. My first Rolex here. So cool to see the history.
