Military unit watches

Does anyone out there have a Military branch, unit/organizational watch? I would love to have a personalized one someday, but I do not think it will come to pass. The only one I've seen in person is this Sinn 556 that is emblazoned with all of the Japanese Air Self Defense Force F-4 squadrons, I assume it was produced to honor the F-4 retirement from the Japanese fleet. It is a pretty busy dial, but none the less it is an awesome watch.

Have plenty of issued, and some tactical collabs.

No unit stuff at the moment, will hopefully, eventually work out the deets for an EOD tool watch from EB, maybe Sangin or Nodus, CWC maybe. Once I have the time and resources to source it.

For now I have my Bombfrog EOD, personally bought after a professional milestone, but not issued or unit specific.

Me and some buddies at work wanted to get a unit watch from Christopher Ward. They had a minimum order requirement of 25 watches. There were 3 of us. 😢

Feel your pain.

In the meantime look at these guys for military/tac tool watches, done by cool micros. They either work with units and design they watch the want, or are vets themselves. Some are even still serving in various capacities.

Elliot Brown Holton Pro

Elliot Brown Beachmaster

Nodus x AWWC (have to go used on this one)

Sangin

Stirling

Ares

Winfield

Astor + Banks

Imperial Watch Co

You could also just go with Marathon, buy through their -mil discount, then send the watch to Wilson Watch Works for a custom finish.

Plan to do this with a Marathon No Date Steel Navigator.

Gonna have Wilson destro it, ruby bead blast it, and see about adding a lumed countdown/12 hr bezel insert, if I agree to pay for a one off.

I will have to do some digging.

I wouldn’t mind picking up a unit watch. Closest thing I have now is that Olongapo band. 😆

I’ve heard CWC does personalized watches, although I’m not sure on the minimum units required for an order. I already have a CWC and so does my Pops but I wouldn’t mind having another! Fantastic watches.

I’ve been wanting a blue angels citizen pilot watch.

Alteady reached out to them, if they are in stock, they will add destro/LHD, diff color second hands, and engraving/unit insignia to caseback on the G10 w/acrylic. YMMV.

Love your Olangapo dude.

My Son in Law is Commander in Japan and has a Breitling Aerospace with USAF Fighter Weapons School unit logo. It was expensive and took a long time (about 10 months), but it VERY cool watch. He treasures it, as he should.

Interesting! In gonna have to look into that. 🤔 Thanks for the info!

Welcome dude. Really from what I remember on the email, it comes down to what CWC has available, and I don't know if every watch is available for this, or just the G10.

@cabarbhab Bremont has a lot of custom unit watches. I've heard of aviation squadrons and some of the SEAL teams working with Bremont.

Yeah, usually you need a large enough order for companies to make a custom unit watch. And the sad reality is that not that many people in the military are into watches. If you are a fan of analog watches, you are lost adrift in a sea of smart watches.

Gorgeous one!

I suppose a G10 would be fine, if that’s the only one they did. I’d prefer the W10, though! I have the Hamilton Pilot Pioneer Mechanical and love it. Wouldn’t mine having another small tonneau with fixed bars.

Worth asking, never know until you do!

I thought of making a Seiko mod for my unit at some point

There was an interview with Piers Berry, owner of Pinnion Watches, on the taking time podcast. He was talking about making squadron/watches. They’ve just done one 617 Sqn RAF and a special forces unit amongst others. He apparently designs it from the ground up rather than customising an existing one of their models. It’s in the last 15 mins or so of this edition I think

This is a fascination of mine and probably the next rabbit hole I’m diving down. Thanks for the info in this thread!
