It’s not that it isn’t from a modern perspective, but it’s a little thicker, albeit still thin-ish, for some looking for a traditional dress watch. Many like to keep dress watches 10mm and under, but it absolutely will look the part. Both are great watches and there isnt a wrong choice, but one is the poster child for dress watches.
Fair but you are paying for the design and brand history. The GS looks a bit generic but the movement is definitely better. To be fair, if you add in price the difference in cost justifies the movement upgrade to the GS.
I’ve seen them between $2,300 and $2,700 without tax vs paying tax on top of $3,300. Not bad.
I bought one today for 2300€. On the bracelet, but I’ll probably wear it on a strap. I also own a GS SBGR251, today I prefer the Cartier, but that’s the honeymoon phase I guess :)

The tank is the quintessential dress watch.
The tank is a dress watch, the GS, not so much. I’d still take the GS if forced to choose.

Why do you say the GS isn’t?

My question exactly.

Cartier, no brainer!!

Fair but I’d look on the used market for much less

Tough call. My wife has the Tank Must Large, which I wear from time to time. Great watch, classic design.
But I’m a GS fanboy and the SGBW231 is on the short list for my next one.
