A different take on the MoonSwatch.

I got the Mission to Jupiter in Paris and I am really enjoying it.

I think this watch gets a bad press because it's directly compared to the Omega it pays homage to.

But I think that's not the comparison we should make. Instead, we should compare it to other Swatches. When we do that, well, this is one of the best Swatches out there.

Please let me know what you think of the video. I started the channel just a few months ago and I am having a lot of fun with it. I hope you like it.

I think it gets bad press because of the price. It should be compared to other watches at that price.

I want one. I will get one sooner or later. But they are overpriced and over hyped IMO. It's about the same price as a PRX.

The biggest issue the MoonSwatch has is the one demonstrated by the first two replies. People compare it against watches it was never intended to compete against.

The MoonSwatch isn't supposed to be a durable daily wear watch like a PRX, it's supposed to be a novelty collectable.

It's like comparing a van against a sports car, obviously a corvette makes a poor van. Just as a van makes for a poor sports car.

Considering the restrictive availability I'm surprised so many people have one of these plastic wonders.

The Japanese thought the MoonSwatch was available at the Shioli crater and sent a probe there. Unfortunately it didn't work out.

I agree with the price point comparison. I do think though this one brings more than that to the equation and the chatter around it is evidence of that. It's a fun one to have.

I agree. I walked into a Swatch store in Paris with ZERO expectations to find it. But they had it. And exactly the model I wanted the most (Mission to Jupiter). Lucky day.

Exactly. I make this point on the video. People have been comparing it to a much higher standard. I think you nailed it, Kristian.

The PRX is a lot more watch, for sure. It's a good point.

While the price has been brought already, my problem with the price for anything like this is its' 'well North' of MSRP. I'm a big Omega fan. But I'm never getting jacked over it.

They haven't really been selling at much over retail+tax in Canada for over a year. Usually it's a few dollars at most. Meaning whoever is flipping them is making less than minimum wage for the effort...

I haven't looked lately, but I was seeing them at double MSRP...and sometimes higher. That 'secondary market' garbage. Hopefully, reality is creeping back in.

I think it’s very subjective and many will come at it from different perspectives.

I was just giving you insight into the main thrust of a dominant negative perspective that I have observed (and certainly share) and which is grounded in an objective comparison of the MoonSwatch against what else is available at that price point.

For some for whom its price is small change or others who willingly buy into the hype then I doubt that will be their perspective.

Personally - and I was a fan of Swatch watches - I found it an odd one as its very heritage is grounded in an everyman watch offering great value and an absence, almost a conscious snubbing, of the pursuit of cachet. And yet here they were suddenly seeking/creating cachet and cynically marking up low quality watches (with pushers that broke when pushed) that offer pretty poor value.

If the quality lived up to the price and upheld the Swatch value proposition then fine but I think they broke that “contract” with their customers with this one.

I haven’t handled the Blancpain Swatch (the MoonSwatch was such a turn off) so can’t really say whether they did a better job there or not. But again the whole pursuit of cachet thing runs counter to their core offering and leaves me quite confused about what Swatch stands for.

Personally it now feels like just another greedy corporation taking easy dollars from the masses and hoarding them for its shareholders. I’m not naive enough to recognise that it wasn’t that before but these collaborations feel to have reached a new level of blatant and cynical … kind of like charging crazy money for Balenciaga and Prada t shirts.
