Next and final step Omega!

Hey everybody! I always enjoy reading the interactions we have in this community and now its my time where i need your help!

These past 6 months i bought myself the tudors bb58 blue and the ranger. Now i want to motivate myself and start saving for my next purchase. I decided it should be an omega, as rolex doesnt really have nice choices (maybe OP in 36 green).

I am thinking/struggling between

Image

Railmaster:

+ cheaper at chrono at around 4200€

+ i like the story as i myself work in the railway industry

+ i dont mind the nato strap as it would become my other daily

+ even though its 40mm it only has a lug2lug of 46,8 which is nice for my asian wrists

-display is rather boring and plain, similar to my ranger

- another black dial

- not available at AD anymore

Image

Seamaster aqua terra 150m

+ the dial! The dial is so beautiful. The shades of blue in light is epic

+ more 3D elements

+ purchase at the AD (my tudors are pre owned)

+ i would buy this rubber bracelet. Dont like the metal bracelet of omega

+ great size with 38mm

- price at AD is around 5850€ with a little discount

- no nice back story like the rail connection and harder to explain to my Mrs why im buying another watch

Guys I would appreciate your comments and help. I chose these two as they are in the budget i want to move up to. But if you have other omega ideas im open for that. Should be sporty but also nice to wear to the office daily (like the ranger snd bb58).

Thanks!!

Best regards

Robert

Railmaster is my vote since it relates to your profession. I also have small Asian wrists and found the Aqua Terra looked too big.

·

There is a sale at Jomashop right now for the Railmaster at $3050. I'm tempted myself. That said, my favorite Omega is the Aquaterra grey dial/blue hands. Love that look. Good luck. Either is a great choice.

·

Just based on how you describe the two watches, I believe you should get the Aqua Terra. You “don’t mind” the strap and believe the lug to lug is “nice” on the rail master. The Aqua Terra is “beautiful”, “epic”, “great” size…

·

The answer lies in your own description of the watches. And Omega it is, as you said, the dial is epic. Though unrelated to your profession you have to live and play with it, so to me it’s pretty obvious.

·

I picked the railmaster because it had a connection to you. I like that it has a retro feel to it. The black dial with the burnt indices. In fact the seamaster trilogy '57 railmaster might work for you also. It a great looking watch. You can find the on Chrono used for $4,500 or so.

That said, did you consider Ball? They have a decently gorgeous selection which are relevant to you too.

·

I think the AT is the prettier watch, and will be easier to sell in the future.

What Ball were you referencing?

·

They are both beautiful watches, as an Omega owner myself I can attest to the quality of Omega watches and as much as I want to say Aqua Terra (as my next watch will be an Aqua Terra) I think the Railmaster looks amazing, I love the vintage look of the watch, either way you can’t go wrong with Omega.

This 57 is the way to go

My vote is Railmaster. The AT doesn’t do anything for me personally, lacks a definite personality.

·

I have the Railmaster and am also saving up for an Aquaterra midterm.

However, if you have a connection to the Railindustry the Railmaster is an obvious choice in my eyes.

The watch is great, case is awesome, dial is amazing, and so comfortable to wear.

I have tried on the AT a couple of times, am aiming for the 41mm, which is a bit thicker than the RM.

I'd also recommend having a look at the other RM colors, if you don't want another black dial.

The silver dial is absolutely amazing in twilight and changing light situations, but not everyone's taste ;)

All in all, two amazing watches!

·

Railmaster is gorgeous, but I'd go Aqua Terra - applied indices , display caseback...

(Not an Aqua Terra, but very similar) Why would you want to hide this??

·

I vote for the AQ! I really like the railmaster too, but i feel like it has too much in common with your tudor ranger in terms of looks, and might make your ranger not get as much wrist time. The AQ would really add some colour and diversity in your collection, especially with a rubber strap making it more sporty.

·

I love them both. I am an Omega owner myself and I have a vintage Constellation "pie pan" and a small seconds hand wind from around 1950. If I was going to buy a new Omega, I would go with the Seamaster. I like that the Aqua Terra has a smaller profile available and I would be less likely to get tired of the novelty of the Railmaster face. On the other hand, since you actually work in the rail industry, it might fit in better with your overall expectations. Either way, you can't go wrong.

·

I prefer the aqua terra but the rail master is insane as well

Nice thanks for the tipp. The dials do look interesting! I wonder if they sell here. Gotta do some more research. Damn so much work for our passion 😂

No prob Bob, just happens that I was researching something related to trains a lot previously. If your profession were pole dancing I wouldn’t be of much help 🙃

I chose the Omega 1957 Trilogy 60th Anniversary Railmaster. Consider this watch if you’re at all leaning to add a Railmaster.

I like your style man! 💪🏽💪🏽 Do you never feel that they are too similar? I mean for us we know the differences but others?

Though on a quick view they seem similar but they are very different from each other — most defined by how they wear. The Ranger, with the T-Fit clasp is an around winner as a field and Explorer watch (at a 100m rating you can do recreational dives with it), the BB58 Black legitimately covers all your diver watch needs and has looks to rival even a Submariner—the Trilogy Railmaster is design elegance and is as tool watch as can be.

Yeah same thoughts here. I love the bracelet on the ranger. Previously i wanted the nato strap by tudor because it looked really nice but after wearing the bracelet i wont change it. The trilogy railmaster does look more classy. The price is around 2,5k higher than the normal one but the limited label makes me want to pay it. That puts the trilogy slightly above the AT in pricing. Before you posted i was pretty sure to post that im going for the AT but you made life difficult. Now back to research… great 😆

Happy hunting. Make sure to try on the watch. I tried on the Trilogy Railmaster at an Omega Boutique—saw a spec of what appears to be a factory particle on the dial. The point is, I loved wearing it. It feels like no other watch I have — but vigilance paid off in spotting something amiss. It was not a big deal. They were not going to conscience selling me the watch, opting to send it back to Omega. I bought a flawless Railmaster from another Omega AD. It remains a prized member of my family watch box.

The Aqua Terra is a beautiful watch!! You can’t go wrong with either in my opinion.

It does look really beautiful! What size is yours? I like the fact that you can wear it to anything.

41mm, 6.5 in wrist. Definitely can dress it up or down.

Also definitely go with the blue or green dials, they are so dynamic and look different depending on the lighting. I almost went black and the AD convinced me to go green and glad that I did.

·

Yeah same plan here. If i go for the AT it would be in blue. Just looks so good. I got too many black dials already.

·

Ok everyone. After a week of precise thinking and going through all of your comments (which were extremely helpful!) i have made my decision.

I will save my money up and my next purchase will be the Omega … AT 150m blue with the rubber strap! I made my decision on following points:

  • Railmaster in black is to close on the looks to my Tudor Ranger which is my GADA.

  • I then had in my head to get the Silver railmaster, which is something new to my set,but somehow did „feel“ right.

  • Even though the Railmaster suits my job, lets be honest, I sit in the office all day and i am not outside in the field or workshop.

  • AT has the perfect proportions with 38mm.

  • Color is still epic in blue.

  • Gotta respect the vote, as it was very clear on that end. The comments where more mixed.

I just hope the prices will go down a little by next year when I can do some purchases again (my conscious wont allow it as I have bought the BB58 and ranger just this summer and i dont want to give them up).

Thanks everybody for your feedback and votes!

You've made an excellent choice.

The Omega Aqua Terra 38mm in Blue is going to be my next Omega purchase.

Plus there are loads of excellent aftermarket watch strap makers that can make outstanding straps that will fit the excellent Omega clasp.

Also, if you want a bracelet with micro adjust, Forstner makes a bracelet that fits the Aqua Terra.

·

Ok for everyone interested, i made the mistake and waited several months. I had the intention on going omega next… but as we all do with our intentions they sometimes change. I went to a local dealer to get a new strap for my tudor ranger. And there i have met my new love. A quartier santos dumont.

It became the dumont on following reasons:

  • I need something dressy

  • Its super thin and comfortable, dissapears when wearing a shirt

  • The price is more justifiable to the Mrs.

  • I need a quartz for my watch box to see what time it is for my other watches 😂

Thanks again for all the comments. As time goes, circumstances change hehe
