Omega Price Increase - STORY BY BLOOMBERG

Omega raised by a whopping 8 percent in the US โ€“ the biggest export market for Swiss timepieces, Morgan Stanley analysts. A move that could hurt sales, according to investment bank Morgan Stanley.

Price hikes could put timepiece collectors off.

What did they say about JLC, Oris, Longines? What about the fact that you canโ€™t actually get a Rolex?

This seems like a drive by story with no depth.

I was trying to see if the Seamaster 300m got a price increase

I know Cartier took second place from them in watch sales last year. Itโ€™ll be interesting to see if they reclaim second place, stay in third, or slid down in sales next year.

It is baffling they and JLC cannot sell their currently inventory at MSRP. Is Omega trying to drive prestige or the idea of luxury by having a high MSRP knowing full well they will not sell at that and in fact will dump most of the inventory on the grey market. Short term play to hope it works out long term? I cannot see it.

Yes. It was across the board in March/April.

Oh wait! They just did it again. The Speedmaster is now $8K. It was $7600 in April and $7200 in January.

I'm really hoping that watch sales start to cool off, this is getting ridiculous.

Omega underperformed in the first half of 2023. The obvious solution is to raise prices again.

I suppose they think they can sell fewer at a higher margin and that is their preferred place in the market. Seems a difficult time to be positioning that way. But maybe so many other brands entered their old space making them less competitive there. Rather than new and better products just raise prices.

ยท

Luxury items are supposed to be prohibitively expensive, & if you can make more money & produce less then it's a win-win for them.

Presumably the used market prices will go up too, but I'm ok with that, they aren't supposed to be easily attainable & I'll just have to save up more - & the value of those I already own will increase.

They all raised prices... only to offer them at a discount later. That's what will happen...

I think it is baffling, as far as Omega is concerned. They have goodlooking watches with great movements and plenty of brand recognition.

JLC is a brand nobody can pronounce, and very few people know. Granted, they make beautiful watches, but unless you don't know what to do with your money, or you are a watch enthusiast, they don't have anything for you.

Omega prices have gone up so much I just jumped on a Rolex list for an Explorer 40 instead of an Aqua Terra.
