5 Figure$ and you haven't told me anything about this watch...

So I wanted to make this post, as I just don't get it... Now I'm going to clear the air first and foremost, and say I can not afford this or any watch in the 5-figure arena..

But my issue isn't SPECIFICALLY with Chopard, but more or less with the 3rd party companies who post these watches for sale. Hodinkee is under the microscope today, but tomorrow it could be Watches.com or Jomashop.. But I see this all too often where there's an expensive watch listed, expensive to me at least, and there are little to no details..

I see this with multiple watches across multiple watch sites. One of the biggest things I see overseen, is the movement. In this example it says "Automatic"...

How are you going to post a watch for almost $18K and NOT say ANYTHING about the movement?!? Hands down just about the most important part of the watch, for most watch enthusiasts.. But I also see many times, the lug width, or thickness, or lug to lug length not mentioned in the synopsis or the specs layout..

I just don't get it, and maybe I'm just missing something. But if someone could enlighten me as to why this is overseen, or why they do it. I'd honestly love to know.. As I've gotten more and more involved with the watch world, these things have become more and more important. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, and if you're just as irritated as I am about this.

Probably just another a sign that decisions at this price point are made for very different reasons than decisions made below $10,000... you're paying because you want a Chopard, and one of the reasons you want a Chopard is because people like me have no idea why you want it. It makes perfect sense but it's also happening in a completely different universe than the one I live in.

Good point honestly, I suppose I'm in that universe with you. It's a nice looking watch minus the dial, imo, but I think you're spot on..

It would bug me too if data was left out of descriptions, I cant think of a site or instance personally, (apart from TKmax) Very vague descriptions)

Most watches I look at or intended purchases have been reviewed and talked about to death on Youtube not leaving out anything,

Maybe when you're looking to spend that kind of money on a watch, your criteria aren't about the specs anymore. Maybe the more important information is that it's very expensive (good), it's made of precious metal (good) and the dial texture is molded on an anus (gooder). 👍

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it..

Not sure what you’re talking about… Hodinkee lists movement specs under “Features”. Also, they have an entire article dedicated to this watch the covers the design and movment, and includes macro shots. Hodinkee definitely doesn’t skimp on information for the watches they peddle in their shop.

Just go look, you'll see it. I'm talking about in the listed specs, not 3/4 into the novel they wrote. Don't get me wrong, if I was dropping $18k on a watch I'd read and learn everything I can about the watch before purchasing, but it's the specs and listings that I'm talking about. I know it's the Chopard caliber 09.01-C, but list it in the specs, or at least the movement it's based off of. As well as other specs, such as the ones I mentioned above in my post. Again this isn't specific to Hodinkee, just my one example was.

Yeah, I've seen this on a few sites, but mostly on eBay listings.

I've never needed to buy a watch so badly that I can't find another seller with the specs and features listed properly. Doing so shows me that they realize they can't just put up a pic of a watch & expect to sell it. They care enough to do what I consider the minimum.

But they do describe the movement and they link directly to that long ass article.

Then Sir, I must be blind. I even double checked, or I thought I did. But I'm sure you've seen what I'm talking about before though..

It might not work the way it seems. At this price point (also not sure about availability) - interested person would likely do his homework and research from official Chopard web-page and then just hunt for a best deal that can be found without really looking at info provided.

·

I'm with you on this all the way.

It annoys me no end regardless of the price.

I want all the specifications...that's what a specifications tab is for.

You don't have to plaster them all over the main sales page...just give us that tab that says "specifications" and tell us all of them. Or better yet...a link to a full PDF download of the specs.

One of the great things about WatchBuys.com is they usually have extreme levels of detail...I was going to link to one of their pages as an example, but then I noticed for a recent Hanhart chronograph that all they indicated was "Automatic mechanical" for the movement. They later go on to explain in further detail "The registers have been relocated to the edge of the dial for correct spacing using modifications from La Joux-Perret"...but no where do they name the movement! I'm guessing it must be a La Joux-Perret chronograph movement, but what the heck is the problem with giving us the exact movement?

I'm with you...don't make me have to excavate the internet to find out basic important specifications about the watch...I want it all!

For me that lack of detail is a red flag. It indicates to me the seller did not bother fo find out. So, how much care did they spend on checking that this is real and not a fake or a Frankenwatch? I suspect none. On low pricepoints, on ebay, you may find the odd bargain when listed like that. But five figures? No, thank you.

·

It’s more jewellery than watch. At least that is what I think the buyers are thinking, so the movement is irrelevant

·

I too have seen simply "Automatic" and wondered WTH?
