New Watch Friday - JLC Master Control Date with black dial

I’ve been after this piece for a few years, but due to its 11k CAD price tag, whenever there was a budget for it, I ended up prioritizing other pieces that seemed more interesting. Almost went for it when looking for a new daily GADA watch last year, but got the Explorer 1 39mm instead (in retrospect it was the right move considering the heavy wear my Explorer gets).

It did stick with me though, with the black dial being now discontinued, I went to try on both the silver and blue dial options currently available, but those just didn’t do it for me, and the newer case design with thinner bezel imho ruins the balance of this model that allows it to be both both dressed up and down.

After seeing one go up for sale in great condition and for a very attractive price, I decided to finally scratch this itch:) The watch wears beautifully - slim on the wrist, but with enough presence as not to venture into ultra thin category, of which I’m not a big a fan, while simple and understated, the subtle element of sunburst in an otherwise matte dial, coupled with raised applied hour markers, really make the watch come alive on the wrist. Matte black alligator strap, and the black dial, make it wearable for any casual outfit short of may be sweatpants and graphic tee combo. Movement is beautifully decorated, as is expected from JLC, and is at least partially finished by hand.

I can see why other models take priority over this one when the budget is available. It’s a very competitive price range. I’ve been sleeping on the MUT Moon for years (and watching the prices steadily skyrocket). It sure would be nice to have though.

Congrats on making the jump at long last. It’s a gorgeous watch.

How could anyone not like this? It’s a lovely watch. And I agree about a watch being too thin doesn’t appeal to me either. Slim no problem. Skinny nah.

Well played. Congrats ! Looks like a Hometime that I have in the collection. Wear it well

Exactly! I tried a couple of ultra thin models and it feels like you’re wearing a coin lol.

That’s the horological equivalent of someone effortlessly charming an entire room! A treat.

Such a winner, you literally sound like me. I have proabably bought 3-6 other watches over 5+years instead of this one. I’m close to decided the black dial is for me. I’ve seen the black dial more available overseas than here in the US for me.

I hope you are over the moon with such an understated GADA piece, cheers to a hell of a pick up.

Yep, sounds about right:) I’m at least 3 watches in since first almost buying this one a few years ago. This time the push to acquire it came from both finding one at a good price point, and also seeing less and less black dial versions on Chrono, so didn’t want to find myself in a situation where I CANT buy it even if I want to.

Go for it, you won’t regret it - after only one day of having it on my wrist I already love it x10 than I did “in theory”

I have a Reverso, so I know I like the brand, my current Reverso will go to my son as I bought it when he was born for him, so I’m also getting past the idea of having three JLCs. I will move a gold and or complicated Reverso into the lineup before I pass along my Grand Taille.

I tried the new current model and liked the silver, I’ve never been able find the previous in black to try.

Not to steal your thunder, I’m genuinely excited that you are liking a long admired piece, congrats again on getting a piece that you like.

Pic of me shopping.
