Junghans Max Bill - the minimalist watch

“I got into designing watches by chance. A gentleman came to me one day and told me he was coming on behalf of a watch factory and asked me if I would make watches for his company. I explained that I would be delighted to make watches, but no ‘jewelry watches,’ no temporary seasonal flowers. On the contrary, watches as far away from fashion as possible. As timeless as possible, without forgetting the time.” ~Max Bill

60 years on, the essential form of the Junghans Max Bill remains unchanged.

I do like this style but the contrast and legibility probably make this a non-starter due to my less than 20/20 eye sight. Shame as the Max Bill minimalism is, oh I don't know, somehow calming to me.

Love the Max Bill 👌🏻

I really respect Junghans for keeping the price reasonable and the design intact despite what I'm sure are constant pressures to move it unnecessarily upmarket as has been the case with nearly every other icon in this industry.

I wore mine all weekend due to a formal event and it reminded me of just how beautiful, comfortable, and versatile a timepiece it is. You can certainly spend more on a dress watch, but you don't really need to...

I find it funny that people classify the Max Bill as a dress watch. It's meant to be a simple and functional design for every day. What's great though is that it can be a dress watch when you need it to!

In a world full of glitz, glam, bright lights and complexity all vying for our attention every waking second, simplicity is breathtaking and defies time. It truly is timeless. It plays into its purpose - to tell time, and doesn’t pretend to be anything more.

This is absolutely one of my all-time favorite watches.

I think “dressy” is a relative term. Back when this was first released, I’d wager it was considered an everyday watch and not dressy, but now, comparative to the baseline (what the average person wears everyday), I guess this is dressy, which in a way is kind of sad.

Honestly, the Max Bill is my Grail. Underrated ambition, just look at this beauty. Thanks for sharing.

My most favorite watch of all-time is the Junghans Max Bill; I have both of the 34mm handwind models and wear them more often than the rest of my collection.

100% agree!

Love my grey dial variant...

The Max Bill is maybe the only watch that I own that I can't place the decade to which it belongs.
