Rolex Super Clone

Ok Yall i have a topic we can discuss about Rolex Super Clone!!!!

So my bestfriends uncle is a HUGE rolex guy, and he is pretty wealthy. He has a set of super clones to match his real Rolexes and his intentional plan was to wear it when ever he has to go to other countries that are not the safest. But, he developed this OCD of being afraid to scratch his real watch so now he basically only wears the super clone. I saw them next to each other and man i couldn't tell nor can he. what are your thoughts on super clones? why would anyone deal with AD bs if you dont care about the value and just get the super clone

Well couple of points to touch here. I will touch on the street/urban element, if you know you are going to a unsafe environment why even bother taking a flashy Rolex? You are screaming rob me please. For him a super clone is couple of grand or even 500 bucks but for a criminal in a third world or a dangerous place even 20 bucks seems tempting. Personally buying a clone I'm wasting my money for the problems it brings 1. Super clones are still expensive so why not get something legit? 2. Warranty a super clone can have issues and I'm stuck spending more money for maintenance and repairs. 3. Either I got it or not the whole point of buying a luxury piece is to celebrate a milestone in my life that I'm able to afford and spoil my self. 4. Too many watches to choose from to be stuck with fake Rolex. Danger aside I would rather buy a Seiko, Oris, Hamilton, Tissot etc. as my beaters and pull out the Luxury in special events. Ethics aside of fakes I would rather buy a homage.

You know that saying, "Opinions are like a$$holes....  everybody's got one."  Okay, here's one man's opinion:

  1.  Super clones are fine.  They're great.  I have purchased something on the order of ~50 of them over the past 12 months - mostly to hand out as gag gifts for friends, co-workers, and family
  2.  When it comes to Rolex, I cannot tell them apart from the real deal, probably because a) I have bad eyesight and poor attention to detail, b) Rolex's thing is to be a simple tool watch, so it's easier for rep manufacturers to clone them, and c) fast prototyping and other modern machining techniques have just gotten so good
  3.  I feel bad for true Rolex lovers - the watches have become so recognizable that everyone can see them and know them immediately, so ain't no flying under the radar
  4.  I feel bad for your friend's uncle.  He has purchased things that he supposedly loves, in order to wear them, because he loves them, but he doesn't wear them, because he loves them.  That is no way to live one's life
  5.  If you don't care about having the "real thing," then absolutely you should get a super clone.  In some cases, I know of people who LOVE having fake watches, because they're super fun conversation pieces, as in, "Yo!  Check out this fake watch!  It's amazing!" and everyone gathers around and ooh's and aah's over how convincing the fake is.  In one case, a friend asked me to get him a super clone of the GMT Master II Batman, because his buddy had gotten one, and he wanted to just f&^% with his buddy and say, "Oh, you paid $18k for yours?  Check mine out!  I paid $400!"  In other cases, people just like the look, and so get the super clone just for the looks
  6.  In some cases, people want the real thing in order to show off to others that they're wealthy, and the only way to credibly signal that you're wealthy is to actually be wealthy.  And, well, if you have a fake watch on your wrist, you're just faking it, and you will know that you're just faking it, and so others will know that you're just faking it
  7.  In most cases, though, I suspect people want the real thing, because they want to tell themselves, "Hey, great job, buddy, on that promotion.  You deserve something special."  And then that person buys a real luxury watch, as a way to pat themselves on the back for a job well done.  And nobody else notices, because 99.9% of the human race doesn't give a rat's a$$ about watches

I have yet to actually meet anyone in real life who has a fake watch, trying to pass it off as real.  I mean, I should hope that I never meet anyone like that in real life.  After all, that sort of tomfoolery bespeaks a set of underlying attributes to the person that I hope would disqualify them from ever being in my company!

I dont know honestly. I have very negative feelings towards (let's call them what the are) fakes. Fake anything. Fake watches, Chinese knockoff Range Rovers, and those fake Guns n roses shirts that seem to be everywhere. I don't like them, pretty much because of what @Omeganut says. To me wearing something that's fake is screaming  "Hey everyone! I'm not a trustworthy person!". There's something weird about my personal creed that refuses to allow me to be something I'm not.

Anyway, that's my two cents worth, take away from it what you will

i agree with most of this. it’s like Shelby cobra clones, I think they’re cool why would you drive the real thing where the fake cost 1% of the real thing and 90% the same

Ok I get that, how do you like the factory 5 Shelby cobra replicas? I think they’re cool Plus even if I have the real original cobra (which I will never will cuz of cost) i wouldn’t drive it everywhere everyday, but the replica which cost 1% of The real thing gives you 90% of the same experience

I've told this story before...  and @PopitonaNATO knows this story, because I told it him, but

  • Saw a Shelby Cobra in my neighborhood, and thought, "Wow, what a cool replica"
  • Few days later, walking past my neighbor, who lives 2 doors down, and he's washing his 1965 Shelby Mustang.  I say, "Whoa!  Is that...?"  Him: "Yeah, it's original.  You're a car guy, right?  Let me show you the engine bay," blah, blah, blah.  We geek out for 10 minutes
  • I say, "You know, the other day, I saw a Cobra kit car around the neighborhood."  He says, "No, that's mine.  It's an original."

🤯

Dude is puttering around town in a $1.5M car.  The depreciation!  Every time he takes it out for a spin, that's like burning a stack of hundred dollar bills!!!

Now that is interesting. I never really considered kit cars to be in the same category as fakes - I don't know what I did consider them as but certainly not fakes- and now you've made that comparison I can't justify my reasoning but I'm still sticking with it. I'm like an old dog with a bone. Heart and head are two different things. I still think kit cars are cool. You know the old saying 'people draw the line just below them'.

Ya I am saying if you have the original cobra thats Worth millions you would not want to drive it everyday risking a crash While a factory 5 kit cost a fraction of it and gives almost the same experience. Let’s say you have a Daytona that’s worth 40k would you want to wear it everyday? while a super replica cost $500 and it looks basically the same. if You say “just buy a seiko” it’s like saying just buy a Corolla it does the same thing

Mate, I may be getting pernickety here but please stop saying "super replica". Its a fake. I'd rather buy a Steinhart or Pagani Design than a fake. Looks basically the same but your not supporting criminals. That way we're both happy. But hey, it's your money and I've said all I can say
