SUVERÄN - Where are you now?

My oldest watch is this Omega Suverän from 1944. It is one of few vintage watches with a horological history of Sweden.

During WWII they were imported from neutral Switzerland by the Swedish authorities and sold at ADs. The profit was used to enhance the military defence as an alternative to war bonds. There were a large variaty of dials made for this case. The dials are not unique for other Omegas during the time period. The uniqueness is the fact that they have a caseback marked ”SUVERÄN” and all of them was sold in Sweden originally. There were also a 32mm military version. These watches were handed out to the Swedish military.

I don’t know how many of these that was produced but I believe it was a significant number. Over the years many of them have moved on and are now all over the globe. Maybe there is other SUVERÄN samples in the WC community also, still in Sweden or migrated abroad.

Top notch manufacturer ✔

Historical significance ✔

Very specific ties to a specific country ✔

You have an unrecognized vintage grail watch.  I love the large subseconds.  It makes it so much easier to read.  It is so much more than just a vintage Omega.

My Ancestry profile says that I am 6% Swedish.  I may have to spend 6% of the time that I spend searching for vintage watches on a quest to obtain one of these.

Thanks. Haha, yes you maybe have to do that. And I think almost 100% of the Swedish population has relatives in north Amerika. So I have to look for some vintage Hamiltons I guess. But yes, the fact that it has historical relevance to Sweden make it special to me. And as vintage enthusiast I also appreciate the reliable 30T2 movement.
