I was looking at moonphase watches, and have been weighing offerings from Oris, Muhler Glashutte and Longines. My dealer, an AD for all those brands, warned me off Oris saying that he'd had a large number of Oris watches with reliability issues. I'd never heard anything bad about Oris before, so wanted to hear about people's experiences with the brand. Any thoughts?
When you buy a watch from Signature Watches you can rest easy knowing that every watch we offer has passed rigorous inspection and authentication
Are you sure you want to discard any unsaved changes?
I think, and I may be wrong, that they had an issue with an in house movement when they first introduced it. I seem to recall hearing something like that. I'd Google that to check but can't now. But that may be what the salesperson was talking about.
Oris are very reliable. I have several and have owned several. The only issue they had as @TheMightyOz mentioned is when they first introduced their 400 movement the minute hand would move after setting and pushing the crown in. A small issue, bit embarrassing, quickly fixed. Tudor had issues with the date on their first BB GMT's, sometimes it happens with new movements. Possibly your AD has another reason for pushing another brand?
This is a nice option, although not sure it's a fair comparison to any of the GO models you may be looking at. They are at two very different price levels for very good reasons. Good luck with your choice. Cheers.
I think @grand.psycho has it right. The original caliber 400, which I have, would jump forward when setting. Even that was easy to workaround, you just needed to make sure you turned the hands counterclockwise to the time before you pushed the crown back in. As far as I understand it, the issue has been addressed. I have not experienced any other issues with it.
FWIW, while I really like Oris in general, I prefer the Longines Master Collection as a moonphase watch.
Also, if you can live without numbers and the date complication, Christopher Ward's C1 Moonphase is stunning, albeit a bit flashy.
I feel like that Oris watch is too busy. Far to much going on on the dial.

And a CW if you need markers and date.

I have 2 - one where I am the original owner (12 years) and one that I am not (owned for around 15). Never jad an issue with the former. The date wheel has been stuck on the latter for around 5 years. It may be an easy fix, but I never set the date on any of my watches so I haven't bothered. Also I've never serviced either.
Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.
He probably just has a better markup on the other two brands so is trying to scare you off to make more profit. 馃憣
Love the #oris artelier with the moonphase complication!! Wear it well!!

The less charitable part of my mind was thinking the same thing...

That was the gf's comment as well

That's sweet! Except for the logo....wtf?

Agreed. Seeing the hidden moon always bothered me too.
I have this moon phase/perpetual calendar. FC makes a great 1. Their dressy moon phase only watch has a new movement with 72 hr power reserve.

Have you considered the Breitling? Was a fair price for a stellar time piece!
