Movement education on WRUW or NWA ?!?

I just had a thought while looking through WRUW posts. I believe that more information rather than model numbers and discriptives of watches could be a good thing .

What I mean by the above statement is that being able to say for instance my Nivada Superantarctica ,has a Soprod movement akin to an ETA 2492 movement with 25 Rubis so when comparing watches we can have a pretty good idea if after we agree to ourselves “ I like this watch “ , is it worth the money “ to me” to shell out for it for instance.

It’s a good barometer of subjective value for people to ascertain for themselves. I just believe this could be helpful for people who see your watch, say for example a “ Seagull 1963 Chronograph “ they might not know what a Chinese made column wheel watch is a good design but probably not worth servicing say compared to a miyota 9015 or 9039 movement or

an ETA 2824/2 or a Selita SW200 or SW300 movement.

Just would be possibly a good idea to have a movement bar on the app to scroll maybe and click on when posting a NWA or your daily WRUW post.

Not compulsory or any such nonsense, just for those that wish to also educate and disseminate this info for the younger or newer hobbyists joining the forum.

Any thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for looking at this small post !

Sometimes, less info on the main post drives more engagement, but also requires more effort of the OP to answer a bunch of questions.

I think it's a good idea, but it might not serve the goals of the Crunch admin.

I like that- a WatchCrunch movement wiki. Imagine the wealth of knowledge that could be gathered specifically for more obscure movements.

·

Good points Todd as I stated it would be entirely up to the OP but answering a bunch of questions would not necessarily have to be answered by the Poster but just spark interest in people to google more info about particular movements to make personal value judgments. Same as a normal post ! If I post an SPB143 , if someone askes my how good or bad it is, I assume the person asking is thinking I am an expert which I would clearly denounce 😂

@JaeBust has provided an excellent resource of abundant information about his latest WRUW , I love his emmersive approach and information drops ! He has provided beautiful images of his Patek moonphase with model numbers, movement type and serial numbers! Some times more is more !

Personally I think having a permanent link on the right side to CaliberCorner.com would be more useful for those looking for more information about a specific movement.

If learning about movements is your jam, this ^ would be better.

Else, a feature where WRUW posts could link to review posts by the owner, might be helpful, in terms of understanding the 'living with' nature of a piece.

Nah. All this info readily available to those that want to seek it out.

·

I love people mention or talk about their watch’s movement but in a regular post, imo it’s will easier to get attention than wruw post.

·

I mean, it's just a pic of whatever cool thing is on my wrist. It's supposed to be a quick daily snap. If someone wants more info they can either look at my full post via my profile, or they can feel free to ask me about it

Seeing people post more info is nice to have but shouldn't be mandated imo

·

IMHO that’s what reviews are for. Posts should be shorter and more off the cuff. If one sees something that interests them, part of the fun is tracking down the details.

I didn’t really say anything about having too just if people feel like it would be nice to just know if a microbrand has a certain movement in it
