What's cooking in the kitchen

So, in the earlier days of Jack Mason, I was always protective and vague about products coming down the pipeline. Looking back on it, other than obvious reasons of not showing all your cards as an organization, it put a barrier between us (the maker) and you (the user). Fast forward to nowadays. Ever since I've been active in the community, WC specifically, it's just been more fun being able to share what we've been working on with you all. It truly feels like you are part of the journey and the end result is that much more satisfying for everyone. So in the spirit of transparency and having fun, here's a little teaser of what's to come late this year.

The timing of this is quite amusing as I've been noticing more posts and interest in dress watches and vintage watches. I've always loved a classic dress watch that's as simple and refined as the outfit I put on when I'm going out to a nice dinner or some special occasion. I actually started my design career at the age old Movado brand and immediately grew an interest in slim minimal dress watches.

The Ellum watch, named after the little neighborhood our HQ is in, has been in our assortment for a few years now as a simple 50's style quartz watch that featured a small second complication. The pie pan dial and simple but intricate indices, just doesn't get old.

As we make more of a push towards enthusiast based watches, the Ellum will be updated to be an automatic AND a hand-wound version. Some while ago, I put a poll out there about automatic vs. hand wound and the results were pretty much even. So....doing both, but one will be very limited in quantity.

This post has gotten way too long already so onto the good stuff. It's currently a 40mm case, but will be sized down to 38mm. Looking at a 9015 for the auto, and a Sellita hand-wound with date. I've been messing around with dial textures and am nearing just the right execution of......that's right, a linen dial 😍

Let me know your thoughts!

That’s beautiful!!!

I heartily endorse this direction.

For years the only real recommendation was the Orient Bambino for those looking for a dress watch was didn't cost a few paychecks. It was slightly too large for many. At 38mm you will provide a great alternative.

Some Deep Ellum context (a non-Grateful Dead version):

Hand wound Sellita with linen dial sounds intriguing. I love small seconds sundials. Interested in learning of case and dial options. Gold plated with dark sapphire blue dial maybe?

Great idea. A good small mid century styled dress watch is hard to come by outside of Orient and Timex. I think if you guys put the same level of finishing as you did in the strato-timer and get the price right, it could be a major hit.

Deep Ellum was home to some great jazz and blues music back in the day! Thanks for sharing

The case will be quite minimal and slim. A watch like this is all about the dial. However, the trick will be making the case feel fluid from the side view. We have a really great foundation to build upon in our current Ellum.

I still think that a Jack Mason minute repeater for under $7500.00 is an enthusiast watch that I would get excited over. The Ellum watch is a beautiful classy dress piece. Well done.

·

Looks great Peter. Looking forward to seeing the final product. The manual wind seems very interesting.

·

Interesting design, for sure.

·

That linen texture is beautiful! I’m hoping it will be offered in a similar color to the one shown… because I’ll be first on the list if so haha. A hand wound dress watch would find itself right at home in my collection.

·

Big fan of this. Have been looking for an affordable dress watch with premium specs. If this is on par in quality like your strato timer and hydrotimer, I'm in.

·

Love seeing a hand wind comeback, amazing. Can’t wait to see the progress as I follow along.

·

May be a pointer date or sub seconds on the Ellum! Love your watch! See you Chicago for the wind up!
