One Watch Collection Experiment

I've recently started considering having a one watch collection. I don't really think it's possible, but I've decided to conduct a little experiment.

I've been primarily wearing my Hamilton Khaki Murph 38 since December 2022. Since it's such a "strap monster" and since I've found a strap manufacturer that I trust and that pretty much makes up my entire strap collection, I feel like I'm wearing a different watch any time I make a strap change.

With this already being my favorite from the collection, and since I've already got a way to make things feel fresh with it every time I put it on, I wonder if I could make this watch my daily, main, go-to, and "one" watch for the foreseeable future.

I already know that the chances of owning a single watch is near impossible, but I've already dinged it up a bunch (which builds character 🙄), I tend to sleep with it on, and I'm comfortable with the overall aesthetic and water resistance. Maybe I don't need anything else in the box.

Let's see how this goes. I really want to give it a shot.

One last thing... even if the experiment is successful, that doesn't necessarily mean that I'll sell everything else. There are some sentimental watches in this collection. Either way, here goes.

EDIT: A few people have brought up the fact that owning one watch isn't a collection. I agree. That is absolutely and undeniably true. "One watch collection" is the nomenclature that gets tossed around the internet, so that's how I chose to label it. It just sounds better too :)

Good luck mate!😯

Sorry, I’ve forgot to mention: Great choice by the way. I’ve had that watch in hand and is just 👌

·

Beautiful pic! Where’s the bracelet from?

·

a very valid option . I would have too put in my top 3 . I don’t know if there is one i could really narrow it down to .

I know how you feel, I pretty much wear only my SPB159 Baby Alpinist (which is very similar to your Murph and the final consideration was between the Alpinist and the Murph) and before that I only wore my Seiko SRPG (which I wore from December 2022 for a year straight). A strap change keeps it fresh and makes it fit the overall outfit/mood for the day. I don't really feel any need to own anything else.

I'm not much of a collector I guess. I like to learn about watches and I like to look at multiple designs and what not, but I'm perfectly happy with one universal watch (and one Suunto fitness tracker).

Love the milansise bracelet.

·

Folks for previous generations coped with just one watch.

Probably many people do now.

We're the weirdos 🤔😂😂

·

That's my favorite watch and the watch I had on today as well.

·

Difficult, for the people who are part of this community, to think of a single watch... basically we like almost all of them, jaja 🤣

·

Good luck! Great choice for that challenge 👍

·

I like the idea of one watch collection. I was watching an old movie where someone died and they brought their watch to confirm. People are supposed to have strong bonds to their watch. If you went missing and I bring your children your watch it should bring them closer. They will know that was your watch not let me check the box he had like 50 maybe this was his too. With a small collection you can build more memories with your watches and they will become more one with you and your identity

·

Great pick for the 1 watch attempt! I think you can do it with this one and if not that’s alright too

·

I've found a strap manufacturer that I trust

Who is this strap manufacturer, always on the lookout for good straps

·

If you manage to succeed, is it possible you could set up a rehab centre for the rest of us?

·

All the best with it! Of course it can be done, especially with the Hamilton! It’s always good to have a watch that fits your everyday lifestyle.

Do you mind sharing the name of the strap manufacturer you use?

·

Beautiful watch. The bracelet goes well with it

·

For what it's worth, the Benchmark Basics site has their shipping address out of Asheville, NC. I second the quality of what you get for the money, though I only knew them off Amazon until recently.

·

I think the closest I could get to a one watch collection would be the Seiko alpinist gmt, but tbh I would much rather have 2-3 watches at least.

·

I love this idea! Best of luck and let us know how it goes!!!!!

·

I wore a simple two tone Date/just for over twenty years but i never called it a 'collection'...just saying...jmo enjoy the hobby

·

In my opinion, you picked a fantastic watch to try this with. Good luck. You’re more courageous than I.

Nice bracelet

·

I just ordered the khaki mechanical as my first luxury beginner watch in black PVD. Can’t wait until it arrives.

·

One dressy, one sporty. That's what I call collection.

·

At a push but I would still lust after other but if I could the Tudor Ranger would be my choice.

·

Recently I needed to take off my watch for a plumbing emergency, not really that handy but my Omega Seamaster 300 Heritage refused to slip off my wrist, the clasp was stuck, failed. I had become for a few hours a one watch guy, no worries but did not relish wearing one watch longer than usual. I enjoy different watches for different events; a one watch experiment is something I will never investigate but my dad wore his 60s Rolex OP till his final moments, was always content with just one watch.

·

Is the bracelet the one from hamilton American Classic?!

·

Ok tnx. I’ve just ordered the one fron Hamilton (20mm)…let’s see how it works. The customer service says it’s compatible. 🤷🏻‍♂️

·

I truly respect your decision that I could never done. I am on 2 watches collection period (a beater and everyday watches).. and I would feel so lost if I send one for maintenace and dont have any watch to wear
