What are your thoughts on mods?

I’ve seen some good ones and some bad. But, overall I think it gives a watch a new look. That’s cool. Your thoughts?

Modding a watch can feel empowering (as it pertains to watches). There's always going to be some minor criticism we have on any given watch and having the confidence in your own abilities to know that you can change it to your liking is great.

If it's your watch then have at it.

I wouldn't do it even if I had the patience and skill. I buy watches that are already to my liking. I'll swap out straps, but that is easily reversed. (but that's not modding)

Depends on the mod and I find that there's a balance.

I regret a bezel change which actually ruined a Duro for me so I gifted it to a friend who loves it. Omega planet ocean bezel - Too far.

Reversible stuff like different colour filters, hour marker & resin bezel swaps for Casios and G-Shocks are fun to play around with, but I usually end up swapping them all back.

I have 1 now. And one on the way. I also have stock pieces… I think mods are cool. I think direct replicates can be weird…

I don't mind. You see some and think "urghhh" and others that you wish the manufacturer would make tomorrow. Its an individual thing. I do not have the skill anyway but as far as I have gone personally is to put sapphire glass on my Duro, and my watch guy did that for me. I am with @foghorn in that I wouldn't buy a watch if I didn't like it and them mod it. But I might buy an old cheap watch to have a mess about with if I had the time and skill.

There are some mods that I can understand, mostly regarding crystals, i.e. swap for sapphire, swap for crystal with AR coating, or cyclops delete. But I probably just wouldn’t buy a watch that I didn’t fully like, there‘s always other watches I‘d like to have

I feel like any mod that person does to make the watch their own, and they like what they have done, then that's a good thing. Might not be to my taste, but that's not the point!
