Wow congratulations! What configuration did you go with? And did you have an existing relationship with the AD?

If you are ever going to get a first Rolex, or if you feel that you are still far away from buying a Submariner or GMT, then a datejust is a good choice.  It's simply one of those watches that stand the test of time.

I'm hearing this more and more.  I think the speculative edge is getting chased from the market.

I was recently looking at white gold day dates (don't ask me why, I shouldn't be spending anywhere near that much on a watch) and the prices are down 30-40% for recent models.

This summer I was offered an Explorer II when visiting an AD where I had no previous purchase history. They claimed that waitlisted customers were on vacation. I don’t know.

I am as curious as everybody else. What DJ did you go for?

Well I haven't actually taken it yet. But I want something with a really timeless feel. So it's just a smooth bezel, Oyster bracelet with a silver dial. Probably helped with the availability.

To quote my local AD: Smooth bezel + Oyster in 41 is by far the most attainable option at the moment. Not to say that it's not mind-blowing that you got the call within 24 hours, but I still think that I might be waiting for my fluted two-tone a little bit longer... 😅

My local AD offered me 3 Datejusts available for purchase, on a random day I walked in… a smooth bezel Wimbeldon 41, a smooth bezel blue, and a fluted S&G 41 black and diamond dial jubilee bracelet.

God dammit i have rotten luck. I’d instantly cash out on the Wimbledon or S&G 41 Black and diamond dial. 

Tempting for sure but I just couldn’t flip a watch as a watch nerd. I’d rather have someone that actually wants that watch to have it. If someone else flips it, then at least it’s not on my conscience. I tried to justify it in my head, that well if I did make money flipping a watch I would put it towards the watch I would actually want. 

Did you buy one?

No, my AD knows me and knows I’d like an Explorer II so I’m pretty sure he’d know that I’d just flip it. But I don’t want to feed into the flipping culture either. I’d like to be able to buy an Explorer II when the time comes.

Glad you think the same as me ,AD need to vet people more ,not sure how they would do it
