CONTROVERSIAL OPINION

Screw Patek Philippe, AP and vacheron constantin.

The Holy trinity is wrong the holy trinity should be:

Blancpain

Breguet

Jaeger-lecture.

Any objections?

Of course, the watchmakers' watchmaker

·

3 outstanding brands but not superior to PP, AP and VC. I suppose valid debate to supplant VC with Brequet but Brequet seems to be stuck in its glorious past. When I started seriously in the 80s was PP. AP, Brequet, times change imo. Blancpain and VC rested just below.

Blancpain: makes amazing watches in all categories: Dive, dress, ladies and art

JLC: they literally supplied the movements for all the holy trinity brands at one point or another

Breguet: have some of the smartest watches and most beautiful complications and have good watches from all genres.

And unlike the holy trinity brands they aren’t self entitled and respect their customers.

I give all of your pics a thumbs up for one reason alone: all three brands make a water resistance product (not every watch) over 30m. Citizen, Seiko and Timex can make dress watches that achieve this. It's a spec that bothers me at the pricepoints for the HT brands

Their biggest accomplishment is the dive watch, but they've allowed Rolex to steal that thunder. Also, there's a plastic copy of their watch that they signed off on.

JLC: they literally supplied the movements for all the holy trinity brands at one point or another.

How about now though?

Breguet: have some of the smartest watches and most beautiful complications and have good watches from all genres.

Swatch has neutered Breguet to a degree. They are no longer your grandfather's Breguet.

Also, all three of these brands are owned by a conglomerate; they had to be saved by another brand during the quartz revolution. Two of the three actual Holy Trinity are independent, and the one that's not, Vacheron Constantin, have better watches than the three brands you mention.

Yep! Great summarising of especially how Brequet have allowed themselves to play second fiddle to Rolex regarding dive watches.

I hope I don’t offend anyone, but I think high end luxury watches are kind of overkill in my opinion. For the price you pay for one you can have so many other nice watches that don’t cost an arm and a leg 🤷🏻‍♂️. And yeah, I guess it’s about having one or two really really nice watches, or you just really like those designs, but that can apply to watches that are less expensive than AP, JLC, PP, etc. Again, that’s just my opinion and I don’t mean to offend anyone. I respect those who do purchase these types of watches 👍🏻.

·

I’d agree on Breguet but not the other two.

VALID opinion.

So much about ultra high end watches is just the flexing of wealth.

Blancpain: did not create a cheap plastic copy of thair watch rather they collaborated with swatch to introduce more people to their brand and make it less likely that someone buys a fake Blancpain as why by a fake pin when you can by a real on for cheap. And don’t forget that blancpain have some of the worlds most skilled artist working on some of their watches. And unlike AP they have not one quartz watch not even the swatch Blancpain is quartz: that shows their commitment to true watchmaking, blancpain don’t make any watches just as a cheap and fast cash grab.

JLC: thanks to JLC the holy trinity is what it is JLC are a true matchmakers and have defined character and a innovative spirit, unlike the holy trinity brands. The holy trinity brands as sat up on their high horse and stoped innovating, I hate to say it but Hublot is the most innovative brand right now.

Breguet: have a refined ideology on watchmaking and are a smart brand unlike AP who are collaborating with rappers and making toy Spider-Man watches, I went to a breguet dealership last week and they said I can buy whatever I see unlike the holy trinity brands that don’t even sell watches anymore because they are so hard to get.

The fact is the holy trinity refers to the brands that servived the quartz crisis the best but now the quartz crisis Is long over and it is time some brands that truly value watchmaking take the place of the brands that now only care about money.

The holy trinity don’t want to make good watches they only want to make good money.

Collaborating IS making the watch. The plastic watch IS a cash grab. You want to elevate them to holy trinity status, but ignore the fact that plastic is the cheapest material in both cost & feel.

Hublot is the most innovative brand right now.

Then why is Hublot not part of your holy trinity?

I went to a breguet dealership last week and they said I can buy whatever I see

So make Casio part of the holy trinity then.

Exclusivity is PART of being one of the holy trinity.

Blancpain: It’s not a cash grab it’s simply that Blancpain don’t do as much marketing and collaborating as the holy trinity brands and their swatch collaboration is doing a massive favor for the watch industry as it is getting more people into watches and is helping everyone. It is also protecting Blancpain from fakes

Hublot: it’s not part of the holy Trinity, because they have a bad reputation, and they need to fix that before they reach holy Trinity status

Casio: is not part of the holy Trinity because they don’t focus on watchmaking they focus on design and functionality when I said that you can get a breguet I was simply pointing out how they focus on watchmaking and not money as they don’t create false scarcity to drive up their prices

·

JLC and Breguet definitely don’t have the marketing departments and hype surrounding them as other brands do. I’ve always replaced AP with Breguet in my own personal “holy trinity”.

I agree with what you said about Hublot to the extent with their models that use their in-house movements, as I find the Classic Fusion models with off the shelf movements overpriced (but still decent quality-wise).

I am not sure if Jaeger-LeCoultre would ever become a holy trinity but I certainly think they deserve more recognition.

If anything, I would replace VC with Rolex to get rid of the conglomerates that just buy up names.

You can rank by sales:

  1. Rolex

  2. Cartier (Richemont)

  3. Omega (Swatch)

  4. Audemars Piguet

  5. Patek Philippe

or average sales price:

  1. Richard Mille

  2. AP

  3. Patek

  4. VC (Richmont)

  5. Rolex

Everything else is just a matter of taste

Loving this #breguet any day!
