Impulse Bidding Panic

Have you ever been scrolling through auction listings, something catches your eye. Yes, that’s exactly what I’ve been looking for! Bid.. too low. Bid again… still low, must be hot! Bid again, yes I’m winning!

Then as time goes you start to realize it wasn’t what you thought it was. Should have researched first. Now I don’t even want it. Just hoping someone will bid now…

Who has been here at least once? How’d it turn out?

Usually not well

I did place an impulsive bid on a nice 44KS that was listed too low to be legit. There were only a few minutes left on the auction when I found it. I didn't notice that the dial was contaminated at first glance. Thankfully, I was outbid before the end so my mistake didn't end up costing me, but it did make me sweat for sure. Now I'm extra careful for barely visible contamination on light dials.

I just bought a .99 cent watch that I don't want. So, yeah it still happens. I have been bailed out many times, but not this time.

Probably a wise move

All the time. Once bid on a vintage Soviet watch until I read the description and it said it keeps horrible time (as most Soviet watches do). Luckily I lost the bid. Also happens with offers. And when the person doesn’t accept the offer I get lucky.

Yes its happened. Fortunately, the ones I didn't really want I was able to get outbid and not stuck with anything real expensive.

Been there done that.

I did this once. Bid a $1 item all the way up to $20 and then got out bid a day or so later & I'd moved on by then.

Lol

It looks best in the sunlight but a tad dark otherwise. Thought about selling it, but it just looks too nice in the sunlight lol

Being outbid at the last minute on a watch happens all the time. The "hoping that someone outbids me" thing has happened to me in other areas I collect, not yet with watches, but I'm sure that'll happen sooner rather than later.

What has happened a couple of times is that I bid low, fully expecting to be outbid, and then I got the thing anyway. But I had made the judgement that this was a very fair price, so ok. This week I will have to find space for two watches (a joblot) I got for £39 incl. shipping, which I had expected to go for anout £80.
