I don't se many people here aside from Indians wearing Indian watches, yes it may sound selfish, but I love my country ๐
And it is sad to see other enthusiasts from around the globe don't actually know of more Indian made wrist watches
Now then! I will not waste your time any much, let's begin โค๏ธ
First and foremost one of my dream watches to get (when I earn some money myself๐ )
ADITYA SAMBHARE
He makes gorgeous watches, if you ask me, he's a indipendent watchmaker from Pune (city in India). In a video he has said that he only makes 12 watches a year, rest of the income he makes is by repairing watches...
Here is a great video about him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INnbh_RM7xs
Secondly
Delhi Watch Company:
Very affordable automatic watches...
That's all I have to say
Oh yeah and they get sold out real quick, so if you like them, hurry ๐ (these above are all sold out, but they come up with watches very frequently...)
๐๐
Thirdly
Bangalore Watch Company:
These are the luxury ones with swiss movments and some lovely Indian touche โค๏ธ...
Now then, last but not the least, the one most people probably know
HMT
Yes! This is the real HMT, not the gross modded ones you see on ebay...
These are very affordable and very reliable watches, from India's oldest very own watch manufacturer โจ
I thank you very much for reading such a long and boring post ๐ ,
I hope I was able to intrest you in some very fine watches,
Thank you very much for your time... โบ๏ธ

The problem with Indian watches is that if you search for them you get flooded with the frankenwatches from Ebay. Also I would have no idea how to go about buying them, do they have direct websites or is there some kind of Ali express website.

Yes ikr, and it's frustrating, I think the best case scenario is that you import them, or be sent to you if you have friend here in India, I think you can buy BWC watches outside of India from the website (just search banglore watch company) because I've seen reviews...
And no not to my knowledge are they available on AliExpress ๐
If you want a Aditya sambhare, I think you gotta DM him and ask if he would import it to you
Sad I could only help this much, but I'll look forward to any new method of it helps you ๐
I hope there will be more interest, for me personally, I have to be able to try a piece before I any watch. Additionally most people like to have the specs of the watch and how they can get it serviced, warranty and so on, on the same level as the design.

Agreed, apart from Aditya sambhare, all of these have spec listed on their website, hope I helped ๐

I've looked into his watches and at ยฃ1-2k there is no way I am buying off an Instagram page, the hmt still look like frankenwatches even if they aren't. I remember seeing the bwc watch on a review because of the 4 6 cricket reference.
Young people have money as wellโฆโฆ. Just saying
Some interesting watches there
Cool designs ๐๐ป
Being a watch enthusiast from India can be a little frustrating with very limited options with Timex, titan and Casio being one then comes the heritage of hmt with its own issues and tacky designs (the new ones) Delhi watch company still finding its roots leaves you with limited options, best option is to import a watch or get it from another country, but I do think some Indian brands will make it to our collection soon...
Whether itโs fair to do so or not, I just automatically exclude anything from India when looking at watches. You can thank the huge number of โfrankenwatchesโ coming out of the country.
I appreciate this. Getting to know about more watchmakers besides the Swiss, Japanese, and Chinese watches is very educational.
I think your title needs some work.

Sure! Thx for the critique...

Agreed, that is a very big problem, one other thing I've been told about is the unavailability of the good ones ๐
I love Bangalore Watch Co! Also, is HMT back in business?! Everything Iโve read says they shuttered in 2016. Iโve got 2: a late 90s/early aughtโs Pilot, and an early 70s Chethan a need of mechanical restoration. Also, if you know any companies that sell HMT movement parts online, please let me know. Itโs VERY hard to get parts in the U.S.
I like HMT watches but I bought two and they just donโt keep time. I need it to be accurate. Maybe I got frankenwatches but still, how do you sort that out from the states?
Lol why only old people with money?! ๐คฃ
Your title rubs me the wrong way. Why should we, old people with money, buy Indian watches. I'll tell you why we do not.
One, as stated before India produces huge amounts of Frankenstein crap that stops working 3 days after you get it.
Two, I want to try the watch before I buy it. With Indian watch, you buy it online, and you are stuck with it. Because returning it, paying for shipping, etc. is too much of hassle.
Three, if a watch breaks after a year, how to I get it repaired. There is no representative in my country that I can contact for support. The Swiss and Japanese companies invested a lot of money to provide support for their products all over the world. So, I would rather go with them.
And final, four. It is great that you love your country. I love my country too. So, I should buy American watches. There are excellent makers of watches here, like Ball, Shinola, RMG, Weiss, Bulova and many more. How many old Indian people with money are buying those? Not too many.
So, thank you for introducing Indian watch companies, but I think I will stick with Swiss, Japanese and American.

Very well! I respect your decision โบ๏ธ
I'm very sorry if the title offended you, is was merely for jokes, then again very sorry ๐...
Hopefully things will get better for Indian watch companies in the future...
I also do agree with the problems you highlighted, and the most frustrating part is that you are right ๐
(idk how to put this in, but i absolutely adore ball watches ๐ญ๐ญ)
Thank you for your time๐๐๐ผ
Haha! I hope HMT expands to other countries
Especially so you can buy them ๐...
Youโve inspired me to do some more scientific testing. I opened both of them to confirm they had (what appear to be) authentic hmt movements. Now I have to wear them and see if they keep time. Theyโre doing fine on the table but Iโm wondering if actually wearing them caused my previous issues.

I'm very glad ๐, hope to chat with you in the future!! ๐๐๐ผ
I would like to see an indian made day date with Hindi lettering and numbering. That would be a lot of fun for me.

Tickels your fancy?! ๐
Tip: if you write HMT devnagri, it will show you hmts with Hindi numerals and text โบ๏ธ

Unfortunately I couldn't find day dates tho, hopefully someone will for sure be able to find one ๐
Is 58 1/2 old? Loved the video about Sambhare and would love to own one of his watches. But... old people like me don't 'do' Instagram (you youngsters shouldn't either, but that's another topic :-) ) and we do like a bit of security (we didn't get old and rich by being reckless), both of these points would put me off buying.
But thanks for improving my knowledge about watchmakers, it is much appreciated.
I'm very glad ๐, hope to chat with you in the future!! ๐๐๐ผ
Well, I already found my issue sadly. The watch stopped for a few seconds and restarted. Then it stopped for about 30 seconds. Thatโll get you behind a few minutes pretty quickly.
I've tried Indian watches and they are all too small, especially the HMT.
My friend Raj sells a lot of watches with Indian things on the dials such as Shiva, Ganesha, and portraits of Shilpa Shetty Kundra when he actually bothers to set up his market stall, but they are all made in China because I know he buys them in bulk from AliBaba.
Thanks for sharing this! That HMT sure is a looker ๐
Very cool looking!!!
Amazing write up!! Some more honourable mentions are Horpa, Ajwain and Jaipur Watch Company. Iโm not endorsing these brands, but merely throwing up their presence. Horpa and Ajwain are truly interesting, while JWC is not something to everyoneโs tastes.

Any e commerce site, be it Amazon, Ali, Flipkart, etc only throw up copies. Knowing someone locally really helps, but other than that, I think the watch community here may help.
