NWA: Fortis Novonaut First Edition

Fortis launched today the successor of the "Official Cosmonauts Chronograph", called Novonaut. I couldn't resist and had to buy one 🤩. There are three models available, I got with the "First Edition". There is also a blue one and as "Legacy Edition" the one that comes the original OCC the closest with a matt dial and lunette.

The watch measures 42mm but with smaller lugs as the Flieger F-43. That makes it aktually also very wearable on my 7inch/18cm wrist.

Edit: almost forgot to say: the "first edition" comes with an additional orange hook strap. Didn't knew it, was a nice surprise

What do you think? Do you like the new Novonaut? Would you choose a different color/model? Or do you have any questions I may answer?

I love Fortis but not chronographs but their fliegers and divers look great.

Congrats! Fortis needs more love.

I Love their focus for tool watches: It's not just a marketing label for them, they actually build what they promise: a real sturdy tool watch. The Marinemaster (as a non-chronograph) is also a really great watch. And a great example of what I mean with tool watch.

❤ Definitely. And they deserve more love and attention. They're doing a really great job!

I just wish they had used the same bezel function on the smaller marine master.

Then the smaller marinemaster would probably cost more... and so the watch would address a different customer... but that's only a guess. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Very nice! I like that they went with shorter lugs and the small rocket at the bottom of the dial is a fun detail 🚀

The shorter lugs in comparison to the F-43 are definitely a big step. The rocket 🚀 at 6 is just on the first-edition. Love details lile this 🤩

Just watched the video about the WERK 17 movement that was sent up in the weather balloon. Pretty cool. Not actually in space, but still cool. I also like the 7750 layout.

·

Great choice! That is a very good looking watch. 👍

·

Looks great! What is the lug to lug?

I measure 51mm lug to lug.

That’s a stunning watch😎

·

I want it.

I Hate you man. I really wanted the prior one but they stopped making it. Now I'm saving for my Santos and I keep being bombarded by beautiful distractions that can derail me.

Mr. Jupp (Owner of Fortis) tells also in a video, that the demand for the prior one was alway there. So, it wasn't just you.

But a Santos is also a very nice watch!

The limited edition with the orange touches is really cool! Congrats on your new watch!

I think I like the dial design of a Sinn 103 a little better but the case shape and construction of the Fortis is just amazing.

Also, this new release (and may be also this post, so, yes, I’m blaming you) has revived my interest in their Fliegers. I was looking in the direction of one of the new Seiko GMTs but now I think I’ll save up a bit more and pull that itchy trigger on a Fortis in the upcoming months.

Enjoy and please post some WRUWs with it!

I have to say, that the first-edition really looks different. It's kinda more a Breitling-finisch (glossy bezel), but in a very clean Fortis design.

Reg Flieger: I've the F-43. The lugs are bigger on the flieger in comparison to the novonaut. Just in case if you have small wrist

I like the Novonaut FE and can’t help but be seduced by the blue one, and i do appreciate them pushing forward in the cosmetics in the Novonaut, but i still am a still a lover of the O.C.C.s.

However, i have one big criticism when it comes to nearly all space-related watches… 12-hour format doesn’t really in space and when your job is all in 24-hour and uses UTC daily. I mean, i get why the watch and the movement are the way the are, but I think at least a 24-hour indicator is pretty much a must-have on any space watch. The I’m sure Breitling’s method for the Cosmonaut isn’t a secret. For fairness, I give Omega a lot of criticism for this on the Skywalker X-33. Aside from the obvious, it would be better to have a more direct conversion instead of mentally switching from one format to the other each time one reads the watch.

The actualy have "shot" this movement in the space. Look here on youtube: https://youtu.be/pdlxjAbw2Gw?si=hrxG--Pci9_Vnnt2

This is a realy cool watch. Tryed on last week all three colors and i think i have to pull the trigger too... not sure about the color, because i like the little details on the "First edition" and obiously the saphire caseback. But i love the clean looking mate bezel and dial on the "Legacy"... We will see... As always it will be a last minute decision. 🤣

I saw that. Pretty cool. Pointless for 99.999% of us, but nice claim to fame nonetheless. 👍🏾

I think that 99.9% of all watch functions are pointless today. Water resistance up to 500m / 1640 ft = pointless for desk divers. Perpetual calendar: Everyone has it on their phone or PC without the fear of accidentally setting it too far. Laser systems make every precise chronograph unnecessary. But let's be honest: We all love the functions on our watches, not because we need them, but because we want them. They, in a way, slow down our daily life, and when we look at a watch, we aren't distracted by the multitude of notifications that our smartphones constantly display. I just wanted to know the time!

What a stunner...congratulations!! I love the orange accents and little easter eggs on the dial. Wear it in good health.
