Three Kings

I have a great many personal favorite references when it comes to Seiko, but if you pinned me down I think I'd have to confess that the original King Seikos from the brand's golden era of the 60's and 70's are my number one. It's a pure coincidence that each of these watches were manufactured in 1971, but it helps to illustrate how diverse this line up was in those days. Perhaps some day I'll expand this collection within a collection to include a King Seiko Vanac or a manual wind reference like the 45KS. For now however, this trio is more than enough to serve as the centerpieces of my small Japanese horde.

EDIT: I neglected to mention the references of my watches!

Great looking watches!

Absolutely love the vintage KSs and have my eye on a few myself. I just took my first leap down the rabbit hole of vintage seiko, it's incredible the diversity they had in their catalogue.

Love my 56 KS! The design language hooked me. Its the cheaper way to get into grand seiko, as mine was built at the same factory!

Lord Matics are awesome! I own 4 of those as well. That 5606-7000 you've got there is lovely. I really like that case design.

Yes, 56KS over 56GS is a no-brainer for me as well. The 56xx series King Seikos had a lot more variety, especially if you include the Vanac line. They had the exact same movements as the 56GS, just not regulated to be quite as accurate apart from those marked as officially certified chronometers.

Lord Matic Specials are ones to look out for as well. Those have movements that are virtually identical to those found within the 52KS series, but generally cost far less. My black 5245-6000 pictured above cost about 3 times as much as my LM Special 5216-8020 and again, the actual guts of both watches are practically the same.

King Seiko is one of the best watch collections.

You’re probably already aware, but if not, the Lord Matic and Lord Marvel have some real gems from the same era. Lots will even use the same movements as the KS you have here. Also, the 45KS is absolutely worth checking out. The 36,000 bph is a joy to watch tick.
