San Martin Delivery SNAFU

So there seems to be an issue at customs with my watch. After receiving notification on Monday morning that my watch had cleared customs and would be in my hands yesterday, I received two further emails Monday night. The first one was from PostNL asking me to pay €23,96 which I duly did. Ten minutes later I received am email from AliExpress telling me that my watch had been rejected by customs, and that they were working on trying to resolve the issue. Since That last message, I have had no further contact from either PostNL or AliExpress. When I check for updates in the apps, PostNL tells me that I have paid and that my package will be delivered while AliExpress states that my parcel is delayed while it is inspected. I have no idea what, if anything, I can do to resolve this situation and am starting to feel just a little bit frustrated.

UPDATE I've just received an email from PostNL, they have my watch and are delivering it tomorrow!!!

Similiar thing happened to me before with AliExpress, it was not a watch though

I just ignored the email Aliexpress sent and a week or so later I got my stuff. Just dont stress it I am pretty sure you'll get it soon.

Thanks Kieron. I have a horrible feeling that the issue is that someone filled out the customs forms incorrectly undervaluing the watch. If that is so, I doubt it will pass.

Hope not my friend, hate customs procedures, just jumped on two watches because I didn't have to import them from Japan, drives me crazy not even really the cost just the extra wait time and messing about, hope its on your wrist soon 👌recently got a San Martin couldn't believe the quality, might grab another.

This will be my 2nd San Martin, but my 1st diver from them. It'll be interesting to see how it stacks up against my Phoibos.

I appreciate it Sam, and yeah, this does kind of suck.

They probably think the sand on the dial is drugs stuffed inside the watch. 🤪

I hope everything works out. I have had things lost from Ali express but I usually get my money back, it just takes a really long time.

·

Opaque shipping errors are one of the few things that can put me in a sputtering, hollering state of rage. I try to remember that virtually all my misdirected watches have showed up soon enough, and that kind of helps. Best of luck!

·

PostNL is very slow and inaccurate in their tracking, you might still get it in a week or so. Either way not to worry, aliexpress will refund if you don’t or the seller will send a new watch.

Nice piece btw, that dial is stunning!

I work for a large express logistics provider. Commonly it can be quite challenging to integrate our systems with the tens of thousands of e-comm platforms of our shippers.

Practically speaking, PostNL physically have your watch (they can't complete customs clearance without the physical arrival of the consignment). Therefore, they are the party who i'd be trusting to have the latest and most accurate information.

I would suspect that there's some error in translation between PostNL and AliExpress systems - where PostNL is flagging a delay in customs pending vat/duty payment, whilst AliExpress are translating this message as a rejection by customs. Both messages will be automated systems driven comms.

It's very rare that Customs will refuse an importation. They might reject a declaration and request an update to the info, but there's very little reason to refuse an import unless it's counterfeit - at which point they'll seize your goods.

If you wanted, you could call PostNL customer service to check status - it might help nudge things along a little. But I would imagine it should be delivered by the weekend.

I've imported probably 20 watches from outside of the EU, most of them from AliX, and never had a problem before. This is however only the 2nd watch ive imported that I have had to pay duties and taxes on.

Thank you. This is actually quite reassuring. I will leave it until the weekend to see if it arrives. If not i will contact PostNL to see what the issue is.

Thanks Adam!. No, I've not seen that version yet. I'll have to search for it. Is it definitely San Martin? I've noticed that Addiesdive have also released watches with this dial.

·

yeah, same case, new dials: I especially like the marble one. Adds some visual interest, but not too flashy. But, In all honesty, they all look amazing

I had the same issue with a watch being rejected by Chinese customs. Seller said it had something to do with them getting back to work after being on holiday for Chinese New Year… sounds a but odd to me. Watch is being resent.

That watch is gorgeous!
