Am I having a quartz crisis?

I know they’re not usually classed as desirable for most collectors, but after a few years of collecting watches, I find myself owning more quartz watches than automatics just for convenience more than anything. I work on the railway and time is evanescence, the more accurate a watch the better, that’s why my work watch is usually a Casio G-Shock with tough solar and multiband six.

Don’t get me wrong, I love automatic watches and my holiday watch is an SKX015 which I still love dearly to this day. I also had a beloved Black Bay 58 which was sold to pay for a deposit on a car 😢

Is there anyone else like me, who rely on their watches to be as close to accurate as possible?

I have 2 automatic watches, I like them, but I usually go with a quartz for my day to day. It's really hard to even beat a cheap g shock, can you imagine a mechanical watch with alarm, chronograph, (pretty much) perpetual calendar, countdown timer, that lights up? One of my eco drive citizens pretty much keeps time with my multiband6 g shock, it's amazing.

As a student in a watchmaking school I can tell you that most of us are wearing quartz watches. Us if any would know the benefits and downsides that come with mechanical movements! 😂Japanese and chinese movements like Miyota are a real taboo subject for us though… 🤐

That’s so funny to hear. I love mechanical an automatic watches with a passion and I’m glad students like you exist to keep those little machines, running what is currently on your wrist?

I definitely have more quartz than mechanical in my collection. I love digital watches and they are a good portion of my collection. My analog watches are about evenly split between quartz and mechanical, maybe a little more mechanical, but the large amount of digital watches in my collection means more quartz than mechanical by a good bit.

G-shock is a poor outdoor watch if you have polarized sunglasses as you have to view them at one angle top down. I'm gravitating to Swiss quartz conversions lately with the purchase of 8 Swiss Ronda. At least they have one jewel. Its fun to have mec's but they are so needy. The only problem is that the whole mod scene is geared toward Seiko automatics. My beater is a homemade sterile 36mm Miyota case with a Chinese 2813 automatic movement (avoid these), Sterile green dial with BB58 hands and no seconds.cost $40.00 to build. The only thing they oil on those is the balance.

Been in the game for many years and have a few nice not too expensive mechanical watches including Hamilton, Christopher Ward etc, however my latest acquisition is a quartz and the only watch I have been wearing for weeks now, it is an MWC Navy diver knock off with sapphire lens screw-crown and date, I'm not saying it would be for everyone but for some reason I just love it!

A go anywhere do anything Cool looking military-ish watch, and spot on timekeeping for around 240 quid

Sorry for the late reply! Currently the only watch in my collection is Seikos Captain Willard (SPB151J1 I think?). I did have Oris Big Crown Pointer date with a beautiful sky blue fume dial for a while but sold that since its colourfulness clashed with most of my outfits. Currently thinking about getting a Sinn 105 St Sa UTC, but little unsure about its size since my wrist is a bit on the anemic side at only 16 cm ( 6,3'' ).
