Purchasing an Omega

Hey!

Quick question: where would you buy a brand new Speedy or Seamaster (not quite decided yet)? There is a 10%-12% discount on the speedy at Prestigetime and Jomashop respectively, and around 20% for the seamasters… but I don’t know if it’s worth losing the Company’s warranty…

Thanks a lot

If the discount is more than a factory service you don't have much to lose. That is to say, if there is an issue you pay for a service and get it back with factory warranty (albeit two years). Chances are it will work just fine and you saved yourself a few $$$.

Armed with that option I would go to the authorised store and see what they are willing to offer as far as discounts go. They may be willing to toss in a rubber strap + deployant for either of those watches or other accessories. If you want these anyway that might be a good option (make sure to ask for the deployant variant in the correct length if that's something you want).

Talk to my AD, Seth. He'll get you a good discount, PLUS "out of state" sales tax treatment. You'll keep full 5-year manufacturer's warranty. PM me if you want his contact info.

Wait, you have an official (international) manufacturer's warranty?

Cause last time I checked (at least on Tudors) it was a Jomashop in-house warranty, not exactly the same.

So no Bonklip?

Maybe you are correct...I personally have never worried about a watch warranty. Buy a quality product and you get what you pay for. My Tudors were purchased at my local AD. As far as Omega warranty go I have purchased second owner and if it still was withen the warranty period all was good.

Why would you loose the warranty? The warranty is connected to the watch, not to the seller. The date on the warranty card is the date an AD sold the watch for the first time. That’s the start of the warranty.

The only thing you „loose“ is the time the watch sits at the grey dealer. If the warranty card says January, but you buy it in July, you „lost“ 6 months of the warranty but that’s it.

If the card is stamped then the warranty comes with the watch, in that instance the watch is technically pre-owned. However, I have seen unstamped cards as well and in that situation you are probably out of luck with manufacturer warranty.

What and lose the "credit" I am building at my AD buying these watches at full retail because I've been on the waiting list with them for a Pepsi for 4 years now?

Seriously, thanks a lot for the offer and all the great posts. I just tried on the white dialed Seamaster 300 but am not ready to buy yet.

You can find some authorized dealers (Not an Omega Boutique) that can get you some discounts. Maybe not as much as Joma but close. Think it’s a little worth it if you can get SOME discount from authorized and you get the whole warranty. But at the end of the day I’ve also bought from Joma and would again if the price was right.

Have you reached out to an AD? While they are unlikely to match Jomashop on price, they may offer a discount and you’d have full Omega warranty. I’d check a few ADs, and if it’s only a few hundred more I’d go with the AD. Having a full 5 year factory warranty does have value in case anything happens.

I bought a Speedmaster Professional (311.30.42.30.01.005) for $3811 on WatchMaxx.com in 2016. Still keeps great time

I wouldn’t worry about warranty with any watch having an ETA, Selitta, Seiko movement or an Omega. They’re built to last.

I did discourage my friend from buying his Tudor GMT Rootbeer from Jomashop given Tudor’s problems with their Kenissi movements. However, I’d buy a smiley face Tudor from Jomashop any day.

I got 10% discount on both watches i bought from the Omega AD. So I'd try that first.

Makes sense… I live in Venezuela (no Omega AD). I was on vacation last week and I tried one boutique and 2 ADs; and both gave me the same speech “no discount on either piece, those are selling fast!” I didn’t try the “gift” thing though…

Thanks!

You do; watches on these sellers come with a store warranty rather than Company warranty…
