Thoughts about orient watches

This was the first watch I bought and owned. To me on the first glance the watch feels very premium if I compare price ratio to what I get. It has this very nice domed crystal (deff not sapphire but I'm not sure). Nice printed dial, pretty Roman numerals. A nice watch, the bracelet on the other hand is what feels cheapish on the watch, but it's doable (will swap it for a white leather Aligator strap) and the body of the watch doesn't have any remarkable finishing.

What are your thoughts about orient? To me it seems like a very good brand if I consider what I get in return for my money. I have a weakness for open heart watches, some hate them I like them. I have huge hands and wrists so Bambino was out of the question and after digging on internet I found this variation of the orient open heart with a nice gold finish.

I have a weakness for Japanese brands, because to me they understand that customers also want to see some value for their money. If I compare what I get in a orient or a Seiko for 500$ to a Swiss watch than its incomparable. I really hope that Asian watch brands do a push back against the over priced swiss watches. Now I do understand that luxury comes at a steep price, however I come from a sports car background. I know there is a difference between a Ferrari and a Porsche, but I don't want to pay a Ferrari price and get a Tesla in return if you know what I mean. This might be a controversial hot take but here goes

Same goes to me for a more luxury watch. I am considering spending around 10-15k$ on a nice watch but to me it's astonishing if I see what I get for a grand Seiko for example or some less hype swiss brands like Frederique constantin and other more mainstream brands.

I was so-so, but then the Mrs got me my Mako II for Christmas, and now they are very popular with me. Does cause a bias.

In fairness, I already preferred their designs and design choices to Seiko, though I prefer Seiko’s dress watches to Orients, but Orient’s ‘tool’ watches are clearly superior to Seiko from my perspective. They may also be above Citizen in that area. In the ‘dress watch’ arena, none of the Bambino really speak to me. But then, I am not really a dress watch person.

I do also prefer them to comparable Swiss brands, and it’s not really until we get to higher end brands that there are designs I like more than say the Grey Kamasu.

I sort of now want a Mako Xl, with only the softness to the hand shape and the lack of any lumed marking on the Bezel being detractors.

If I wasn’t so attached to it, and could find a place to get it done professionally, I would definitely be considering modding my Mako with sapphire Crystal, and maybe a Bezel change — but whilst that would open up the option for ceramic, it’s would also ruin the sleek lines of the watch, and some of its character.

I like Orient. They make solid watches, have a well rounded catalog, and for the nerd in me have their own movements.

I love Orient, especially their logo. It just screams 60s Japanese modernism to me like the Hotel Okura lobby. The Tri Star range is my favourite. Not only because it sounds like one of my favourite classic jet airliners. Comfy and wearable and unbelievably inexpensive - this one was $50.

I agree. I definitely agree, well I suppose I'm just a little annoyed in general with the price of some watches whilst others seem fairly priced to me.

If you’re looking for more interesting watches at the same low price point, don’t be afraid of checking out older Orients and O Stars too! There are a lot of fantastic and unique designs out there that you don’t see anymore, like the Explorients, Oreo dress watches, and the various Power Reserve models (not the current OS Classic).

I think if you like Orient designs you are very lucky! Because you can have a lot of watches that you like with amazing quality for the price :)

Unfortunately I don't really like Orient watches they are amazing but not for me, we picked up one for a friend's birthday, spent 180 dollars and I was really amazed buy the overral quality!

Ye I have been recently looking at alot of Japanese watches. Even thinking of dropping a first 10k watch for a Seiko. I just feel like I get way more and don't want to overpay for swiss. I really do love swiss wats but recently I have a feeling some brands just went goofy with their prices

Love Orient, have three of them. As many have said, including yourself, price ratio to what you get can't be beat. I don't dress up much these days, but when I have to an Orient is on my wrist.

Love them. A whopping $40 used.
